It sounds daft because I never met her, but Britt Allcroft's death has really hit me in a way I didn't think it would.

Without Britt, Thomas may never have left the pages of Awdry's books, and we'd not have the fandom that exists today on anywhere near the same scale.

I honestly believe that the world's of railway modelling and heritage railways have a lot to thank the original creators of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends for, by regenerating interest in models and in steam railways for younger generations. It's a real shame that Thomas went the way it has done in recent years but I owe my career and passion for model making to Britt Allcroft, David Mitton and all the production team of the original model series. From the outpouring of love on social media today, I know I'm not alone.

I am thankful for her through 'An Unlikely Fandom: The Impact of Thomas The Tank Engine' documentary, she got to see the impact of her work bringing Reverend Wilbert Awdry to the TV Screen

R.I.P. Britt Allcroft.

“I was very sure that I wanted classic ‘Thomas and Friends’ to look like a world for children that could indeed exist, and I was greatly inspired by book two of ‘The Railway Series’ of books, which had an illustration of Thomas on its cover,” Allcroft says. “I also wanted it to be told in such a way that a little child who might well be on his or her own could feel comforted and loved by the storyteller.”
