“I still struggle frequently with taking the easy way out. My cure is to do something challenging: dance, sing, act, or choreograph a new routine with my dancing swords. In fact, those swords serve as a positive reminder to stay sharp and that there is always something beautiful ahead.”

"I recently was watching one of my favorite shows, and this woman was giving a speech on the topic of lying; she said that the most common lie is the one we say on autopilot to ourselves and everyone else, that we're "just fine", and that the first step to accomplishing your personal goals is to stop saying that you're "fine" and say how you're really feeling.
Despite the name, postpartum depression can start while pregnant. I'm here to say that pregnancy isn't all sunshine and rainbows, and you will feel days when you doubt everything and everyone in your life. You won't feel fine. And that's ok, because you're doing one of the hardest jobs; you're creating another life while also going through your own life. Maybe at the same time as being pregnant you have a full-time job and/or full-time school, maybe you have another kid and an ex-spouse. Or maybe you don't have any other problems except for being pregnant, because that's already a huge undertaking and it should be more respected and understood.
The point is, that even if there's nothing else going on, you should stop saying "I'm fine" if in reality you need help. Maybe the help you need is simply to have someone there for you to tell that you're not "just fine", and that can make all the difference.

"I have had many friends, some I consider immediate family, come to me in a suicidal moment or even call from a hospital after a serious attempt to end their life. I have even faced that dark moment myself, where life became unbearable and the gun on the shelf seemed my only way out. I cannot tell you how grateful I am that none of these terrible moments in my life ever ended in their death or my own. I always have and always will make myself available to give what aid I can to others facing the temporary insanity that insists that death is one's only option."

"Nothing in life that is worth doing is easy. The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.
I am here for you as long I I still have breath in my lungs."

Want your business to be the top-listed Event Planning Service?
Tonight in Dallas, we’ll have about 200 homeless youth living on the streets; over half of them have experienced sexual assault, and at least a quarter of them are LGBTQ. Nearly 40% of homeless youth have reported feeling unsafe at shelters, and 48% have experienced homelessness four or more times.
Overall homelessness has risen 9% since last year, and an overwhelming 66% of the homeless are people of color. Our veterans have one of the highest su***de rates in the US, compounded by poverty, PTSD, and substance abuse… averaging 20 su***des per day.
And every year, 40,000 infants are born with congenital heart defects; a quarter of them will need surgery or treatment to survive their first year. Only 85% of them make it to age eighteen.
“How can we help?”
We’re the Vampire Court of Dallas, a 501c3 tax-exempt charity that has raised and/or donated over $15,000 in the past three years to causes including domestic abuse prevention, medical research, children with medical needs, su***de prevention, and homelessness… all chosen democratically at our public meetings by our membership. While we currently have 65 voting members in the DFW area, and number just over 100 including supporters and volunteers… we know we’re a micro-charity. We define success by doing the most good at the local level, not by massive dollar amounts.
“So, Dallas, how can we help?”
I know the questions you must have; why ‘Vampire Court of Dallas’? Or ‘Do all the members wear capes and plastic Halloween fangs?’ Well, some charities wear silly hats and drive toy cars, while others host expensive dinners that, unfortunately, exclude a lot of young people and new professionals.
To that end, we try to empower various alternative subcultures and engage with charities that directly impact the local area. We do this by partnering with local clubs and venues throughout DFW, as well as local small businesses. For example, our biggest events right now are the Bleeding Hearts’ Ball in March, and a Krampus-themed Holiday Party and Toy Drive coming up in December.
The VCD isn’t here to save the world; just to do the best we can while making the world a better, more inclusive place.
So if you’re running or volunteering with a local tax-exempt charity and want to try something a little different…
“We’re the VCD. How can we help?”
