A Short Engagement Book + blog dedicated to helping you plan your wedding in 6 months or less while laying the foundati It all started with a question. Our wedding. Surprise!

The same one you probably just said "yes" to. "Will you marry me?"

And that was that. In addition to being head-over-heels in love and over-the-moon happy, we were engaged! An entire lifetime of wedded bliss was ahead of us. The only thing that stood in our way? There were guest lists to make. A gown to select. Details to determine. And it all needed to happen yesterday. That's because Taylor and

I said "I do" to a short engagement...and it was the best decision we ever made. That doesn't mean everyone understood it, though. When I flashed my engagement ring in March of 2013—then announced that I would be getting married in July of the same year—everyone had two questions: "Why?" and "How?" At that point, I honestly didn't know—but I figured I'd find plenty of information out there to help get my less-than-traditional planning process off the ground. That information was nowhere to be found. Timelines spanning 12-18 months were the norm, meaning I had to basically wing my wedding planning process. This website and our eBook, How to Plan Your Wedding in Six Months or Less, were created so that you don't have to do the same! Our site has been stocked with time-crunched To-Do lists, edited planning information, real life love stories from other speedy couples, and so much more. We'll be shaking our pom poms from the sidelines as you complete your sprint toward the aisle. Cheers to exchanging the title of "fiance" for "wife" as soon as possible! Love,

I absolutely loved learning more about the special, intimate details that Saley and her husband, John, implemented at their wedding, which was planned in just 4 months! It made me extra happy to hear that Saley referred to our site throughout the wedding planning process and found it encouraging as she worked to bring her own Christ-centered wedding to life.

Do couples planning a wedding in 6 months or less REALLY need to hire a wedding planner? Our answer might surprise you!

While you might be tempted to think that planning a wedding quickly gives you a pass to forgo hiring a wedding planner, I personally think that a shorter engagement makes a wedding planner all the more essential. Here are a few of the many reasons why!

In light of last night’s fence jump/emotional Cassie-Colton convo, there are a few things I want to share about moving toward marriage with confidence.

First, I recognize that The Bachelor is an edited TV show and we are being fed a storyline by producers. But based on the presented storyline, I found myself really identifying with Cassie’s doubt/confusion.

In previous relationships I found it hard to believe I would ever NOT feel suffocated/trapped by marriage. I hesitated to end things, though, because I was afraid of making a decision out of fear that I would regret. People saying things like “when you know, you know” only made it worse—how ambiguous! No one could tell me exactly what that meant or how it felt in real terms.

But then, something crazy happened...I “knew” just 3 days after connecting with Taylor.

Physically, it was like a switch flipped on that enabled me to know and see Taylor in a deeper way than what our surface conversation could have enabled me to. I didn't know when a wedding would happen, or what our relationship would look like, but I trusted. Not the emotion or the fantasy or the "feeling" of it. Not a kiss. Not a spoken promise. I trusted, in the most unabashed way I have ever experienced, the heart of my Heavenly Father.

Knowing that Taylor was going to be my husband helped me know on a more intimate level that the Lord is real, active, and pursuing my heart. I wept not because of the overwhelming love I felt for Taylor—that hadn't fully formed yet—but because I felt to my core that Taylor had been given eyes to see me like my Heavenly Father does, and vice versa. I didn't have to pretend during our conversations. I didn't have to act. I didn't have to explain, phrase things just the right way, manipulate, control, present myself in the best possible light, or gloss over the ugly parts of myself or my story. I could be accepted, known and cared for just as I was…and I could rejoice in the new capacity growing within me to "love as [my Savior] first loved [me]." (1 John 4:19)

Bottom line: every story is different, but I believe assurance is possible. Hoping that for Cassie + Colton and all you other lovers out there 💕

Tim Tebow is off the market, and the Karley of 6 years ago needs a moment of silence to mourn his loss...ahem, engagement 😭

But seriously, I am so happy for these two. Funny enough, Timmy Tebs played a role in my own love story. It goes like this: I was home from college, single, and laying on my parents’ couch when I had the inspired idea to create a list on my iPhone titled “People I’d go on a date with.” Tim was the first name I wrote down . As I continued down the list, Taylor’s name randomly popped into my mind, which is weird because I hadn’t seen him since I was 15. I proceeded to walk into my dad’s office and say, “Give me a reason to contact Taylor Kiker.”

He did, we reconnected, our families took a joint vacation together, we fell in love in a God-ordained kinda way, and we got married after a short 4.5-month engagement. So thank you, Tim, for headlining the list that led me to the love of my life. I’m so happy that you’ve found yours! // ashortengagement.com

A wedding invitation isn't JUST a ticket to free cake for your guests (although, there is that). It's also a signifier that there are parties to attend, gifts to purchase, and—in the case of destination weddings—plane tickets to reserve, rooms to book, and travel plans to finalize.
