A Gathering Basket - Issue 12 : Ash
AVAILABLE NOW
What is your tribal connection to ash? This month we'll be looking at the concepts of communal, lineal, and familial uses of ash and exploring some of the traditional foodways that utilize them.
We'll be learning from the students and teachers of the Dził Ditł'oó School of Empowerment, Action, and Perseverance (DEAP) how to make gad bit'eesh (juniper ash) and looking at two recipes using it; tooshchiin (blue corn mush) and bááh dóó klíízh (blue corn ash bread) from our brother Josh Nez.
Alongside these we'll hear from our friend Sii~xuutesna about the process of making San-chvntuu-'i' (Acorn Soup) in her Tolowa Yurok community and how ash plays a part.
And while we won't give away everything we hope you enjoy this offering and let us know what some of the uses for ash are in your communities!!!

Issue 3 looks at the reflection of Indigenous Birthwork and our plant relative Amaranth, in terms of warfare against those systems of being, the aftermath, and the revitalization. Join Doulas Leslie Swan (Yakama), Sewa Yuli (Yoeme/Purapecha), and Rubi Orozco-Santos (Mexican) as they share cosmology, remembrance, poetry, and a glimpse at Indigenous Birthwork coming home.
