At opening night of A Beautiful Noise Musical on Broadway, Neil Diamond surprised theatergoers when he popped up in the balcony during the curtain call to help lead the audience in a singalong of his beloved 1969 hit “Sweet Caroline.” 🌟

Two of Carly Simon's sisters died this week, a day apart, from cancer. The 3 sang together as "The Simon Sisters" and now Joanna and Lucy have joined the heavenly choir. Condolences to Carly and family.

Joanna, 85, was a former opera singer, while Lucy, 82, was a Broadway composer.

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write a famous author and ask for advice. Kurt Vonnegut was the only one to respond - and his response is magnificent:
“Dear Xavier High School, and Ms. Lockwood, and Messrs Perin, McFeely, Batten, Maurer and Congiusta:
I thank you for your friendly letters. You sure know how to cheer up a really old geezer (84) in his sunset years. I don’t make public appearances any more because I now resemble nothing so much as an iguana.
What I had to say to you, moreover, would not take long, to wit: Practice any art, music, singing, dancing, acting, drawing, painting, sculpting, poetry, fiction, essays, reportage, no matter how well or badly, not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming, to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow.
Seriously! I mean starting right now, do art and do it for the rest of your lives. Draw a funny or nice picture of Ms. Lockwood, and give it to her. Dance home after school, and sing in the shower and on and on. Make a face in your mashed potatoes. Pretend you’re Count Dracula.
Here’s an assignment for tonight, and I hope Ms. Lockwood will flunk you if you don’t do it: Write a six line poem, about anything, but rhymed. No fair tennis without a net. Make it as good as you possibly can. But don’t tell anybody what you’re doing. Don’t show it or recite it to anybody, not even your girlfriend or parents or whatever, or Ms. Lockwood. OK?
Tear it up into teeny-weeny pieces, and discard them into widely separated trash receptacals. You will find that you have already been gloriously rewarded for your poem. You have experienced becoming, learned a lot more about what’s inside you, and you have made your soul grow.
God bless you all!"

So sad 😥
"Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.
Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund (ONJFoundationFund.org).
Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall."

Look forward to seeing Amy Helm and her mother share Ezra’s writing. So sorry for this sadness in Levon Helm’s life.

Look forward to seeing Amy Helm and her mother share Ezra’s writing. So sorry for this sadness in Levon Helm’s life.

Today is my bother Ezra’s birthday, and also the day he took his own life and left this world 13 years ago.

Ezra was tender hearted, sensitive, profoundly funny and smart. A brilliant writer, gifted with words and insight. I remember his trembling hands, his wide open wild heart, his talent, and how he suffered the weight of his burdens.

He took on the task of narrating the ‘colorful’ realities that surrounded us in our childhood. His powerful intellect and insight quickly landed on the indescribable dysfunction, and made it funny.

Tears streaming down our face funny.

We both loved my Dad dearly, but he and his cohorts weren’t in a place to see the truth just yet….so we framed it all in the darkest of humor, all to ourselves, and made it our refuge.

Imitations of the drunk nights, the season of the dope fiend , the endless stream of friends who came and went in stoned droves. Animated re-enactments of clipped and abandoned conversations that people couldn’t finish with us, as they sank into the various dark places that held them.

It was the highest comedy, and it lit up the impossible and painted it in peals of laughter.

He took on the burden of protector that big brothers carry -holder of the truth that threatens to bend us- holding it so I didn’t have to all alone.

I wish he were here, I wish I had been better able to reach him and light up for him the place where his heart got trapped.

It’s not easy to forgive su***de, it’s not easy to hold it, it’s not easy to watch my Mom hold it. Sometimes it still makes me angry, sometimes it still shatters.

I try to make living amends to him by committing to the practice of kindness and connection, and seeing people where they are.

My Mom and I are preparing some of his writing to share with you- more to come

I love you Ezra ❤️
