Last weekend, Adam and I had the joy of photographing one of my favorite families, the Guillens—Eddy, Ashley, and their two kids, Lena and Zavi. This family holds a very special place in my heart. Since 2015, when I stepped in last minute to capture Eddy and Ashley’s wedding, I’ve had the privilege of documenting their life together. From shooting Zavi’s birth to our annual family sessions, each year brings new memories to capture.

This year, we planned for a fall family session to capture the season’s gorgeous colors, but nature had its own plans. About a half-hour into the session, a light drizzle set in, and we realized we’d have to cut the session short. Just as I was lining up a shot of the whole family, we felt the rain come down in sheets, and it was time to run! Laughing and soaked, we made a mad dash back to the vehicles. It was one of those chaotic, unscripted moments that somehow captures the spirit of family life—unexpected, full of laughter, and a bit messy.
