Normally this time of year, I'd be hyping everybody up for market season, myself included, but this year is a bit different.

Leaf & Petal won't be at our usual Chattanooga Markets and Market Square markets this year.

I'm taking time this year to focus on just that - time.

Between my father being diagnosed with Alzheimer's, having a kindergarten graduate, a high school graduate, and a new full time job - I want to spend my free time loving on my family and friends. Small business life isn't for the faint of heart and I've been going nonstop for years now and I need to rest for a bit and focus on myself and those closest to me.

It's been a wonderful 9 years of Leaf & Petal and this is certainly NOT the end! I plan on being back at markets next year, maybe not weekly as in previous years but still back selling plants, giving hugs, and offering my best plant advice. 🌿

Feel free to shoot me a message or picture of an unhappy plant if you need some suggestions. I'm always here to help!

Much love to the other crazy plant people who have stuck with me through the years, I can't wait to see each and every one of y'all again! 💚💚💚

Everyone, meet Aretha. Aretha, meet everyone.

A Cissus Discolor - my latest wholelottaplant investment that's been on my wishlist for a while.

And if I've got one, you'll have one too. Cuttings have already been started!

While we may not love the near-3-digit temperatures and stifling humidity, I know some plants that do. The greenhouse is packed full and looking mighty beautiful here lately.

Making succulent arrangements is always my absolute favorite and this one just made me swoon.

Some of y'all have been around since the beginning of my business, back in 2014 when it was The Succulent Shop and I had hardly a clue what I was doing. I just knew I had a strong desire to grow plants and share them with others.

Things have changed so much these past 7 years and I consider myself so lucky to have been able to let my creativity determine the path my business takes and it having a positive outcome.

After much thought - I've decided to no longer grow cut flowers. May not seem like a big decision to some, but it's a difficult and necessary one for me. I have a deep love for seeing a seed go from a tiny speck nestled in dirt to a beautiful, vibrant flower as the centerpiece in a bouquet. It's truly an amazing thing to witness, even having seen it thousands of times over during the past 4 years I've spent flower farming.

But business owners do what makes sense for the business. Between the other plants and creations that make up Leaf & Petal, and also running , I've had to release what I can to focus elsewhere.

So, no more zinnia filled mason jars in the summer or dinnerplate dahlias in the fall but lots more houseplants of all kinds and macrame everything.

Thanks for reading my long-winded, probably should have been a journal entry of a post 💚

I've made a personal commitment, to myself through my business, to always grow in sustainable ways.

Sustainability means caring more about nature and her relationship with those who come after me than my desire to sell and make money.

Sustainability means not using a drop of pesticides or chemicals, ever, and researching ways to naturally handle pests.

Sustainability means if a mama bird needs a peperomia hanging basket to bring her babies into this world, then that's one less hanging basket I have to sell.

It's never a sacrifice and always rewarding. 💚

This is my first (and there will never be a last) year growing Orlaya. Heavy on the whimsical vibes with this one.

I meant to make a post about these fresh cut herbs as soon as I got to the market but you all showed up and showed out today! It's been nonstop since I got here at 9 this morning, and that's a good thing! Thank you to all my plant people who came out to the market today! 💚

P.S. - Live music will finally be back at the market next Sunday!

It's April 1st and that means market season is almost here! Now the real prep work begins - planting, repotting, harvesting, creating, and making.

The first anemones of 2021! And some tulips and daffodils are springing up too!

I'm grateful that I get to begin another year of having my hands in the dirt, daily connected to the ground beneath me, growing beautiful plants and flowers for my community. It is an honor.
