Happy 4th of July!!

"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4th, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics were kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness."

When COVID fells you just when it is time to dig the dahlais, you adapt. Following the lead of and , you mulch them heavily, then cover with plastic fastened down with landscape pins.

A mild winter and an early spring mean you are pinching and staking the overwintered plants before Mother's Day.

It also means that while the new tubers you bought to hedge your bet are still waiting to be planted, you harvest the first flower.

Welcome, Tahoma Sarah! Can't wait to see how this year's dahlia dance develops.

It may have been cloudy, but all was sunshine today for our annual Local Flowers Farm Tour. We laughed and learned from the talented who demonstrated a beautiful compote design.

We had amazingly gorgeous flowers from the farm at our fingertips - peonies, baptisia, agrostemma, orlaya, foxglove, yarrow, and snapdragons, combined with a fabulous assortment of greenery from the woody perennials planted beautifully in the landscape.

So happy to work with the always gracious to make our fifth farm tour a success.
