I LOVE shooting in the desert with warm golden light and cotton candy sunsets. But if deserts aren’t for you, then I know lots of hidden gems that look nothing like the desert. Classic sessions and senior sessions include your location choice within the Valley, and I’m always happy to help with location and/or outfit ideas. I love all things style so I've got you covered with what to wear and how to get photo-ready!! My goal is to document you, as you really are, in beautiful natural light. One of my favorite parts of family photography is seeing returning families grow in front of my lens. The first time I met this family, their sweet boys were 3 and 4, and now they’re in the grades that I teach at elementary school. 🥰 🥺💙

We went on an adventure with these almost 2-year old twins. 🥰 They had the most fun exploring, running around and playing in the dirt in their cute dresses, and I’m so glad mom was good with that. 💕

The one time I brought a camera to Disneyland…the last time we went there was for his 10th birthday. We packed the dress into our backpack and brought a change of clothes to store in a locker after taking pictures. At rope drop, we took these pictures, then changed and still had time to walk onto rides before 8:45.

For his 13th birthday, he wants to go back! I’m not bringing a camera this time, but I’m so glad I did at least once.

You know when you think you know a place, but then realize there’s a whole world you haven’t yet discovered? I thought I knew Sedona well since I’ve been going there since I was a kid. But is one of my new favorite Sedona trails. All the different types of trees and the stream makes this spot feel a world away from the rest of Sedona. I’d love to go again when the leaves change colors.

Tip: If you go to West Fork, get to the parking lot around 6am when the gate opens. We went on a weekday, and it was full at 8am. It was totally worth the wait, but next time, we’ll get there by 6am.

Surprise! His reaction to his birthday gift - an upcoming surprise trip to Disneyland for his 13th birthday. When he heard the news and realized why he was holding that seemingly random Mickey bluetooth speaker, he leaped up and cried tears of joy for the next few minutes. This is a core moment that I think we’ll both always remember, since this was the only thing he wrote on his birthday wishlist months ago and didn’t think would happen. 🥰

Reflection. He’ll be 13 soon so I needed to document him as a still 12-year old before his birthday next week. Of course he grows every year, but in recent months, the growth/changes in him have been more accelerated. And recent Facebook memories have shown him from over half his life ago with a baby face and his raspy, little boy voice. He’s almost my height, and I’m hyper aware that he’ll surpass me any month now. So I wanted to leave a permanant spot in these squares because one day, this will be a memory too.

Now booking Class of 2025 for this Fall and Spring. 🎓 If you want a location with water, here’s one that available year-round. And we were pleasantly surprised to see patches of purple wildflowers for her spring session. My favorite part was ending the session IN the water.

Photographing mamas with their babies (when they’re little and older too!) is one of my favorite things. Fall will be here before we know it, and so will the sunflower fields. 🌻 If you’re interested in a family or senior session in the sunflowers, please DM me. Permits are limited. Sunflowers will be available late August through most of October.

Scheduling tip: Weekdays are MUCH less crowded than the weekends, especially in October!

That was fast. It’s hard to believe that the first half of the year is already over! It’s hard to think about planning outfits with sweaters or letterman jackets when it’s 110 right now, but fall will be here before we know it, and so will busy school schedules.

If you’re wanting to book Senior Pictures or Family Photos, my fall calendar opens tomorrow at 10am for subscribers and at 10am on July 3rd to everyone. Weekends in October and November always sell out first so set your alarm if you want a session between September-December because I hate turning people away who inquire at the last minute.

Hello! ☀️ I’m Cher, the face behind Cher Photography AZ.

I picked up my first DSLR camera after my daughter and son were born to document their childhood. I photographed their birthdays, milestones, and time with friends. What started as a hobby turned into taking pictures of my friends’ kids and families, then starting my small business. I LOVE photographing kids, teens, and families. My passion and specialties are seniors and families. I’m located in Surprise, but I travel throughout the Valley. I love warm color, authentic emotions, a mix of posed and unposed/prompted images, and movement in my photos. When you book a session, it’s important to me to prepare my clients for their session by offering styling guidance and location suggestions based on your outfits’ colors and vibe so that locations and outfits are harmonious. During your session, I give lots of directions with prompts and posing so you won’t have time to think about feeling awkward. My goal is for you to have fun at your session!

This is a mom post. Her 8th grade promotion is this week, then onto high school in the fall. A big part of me is sad how the last 9 years since she started Kindergarten have flown by, but I’m working on staying in the present and appreciating this stage. She’s worked hard, persevered, and taken risks; and my mama heart is proud. 🥳

Why, hello there. Thanks for stopping by! I'm Cheryl, but call me Cher. I live in the West Valley, near Phoenix, AZ. I'm also a third grade teacher. I didn’t realize until recently how much teaching and photography would overlap. Being an active listener, demonstrating patience, and planning with the end result in mind have helped me as both a teacher and photographer. As a mom to two kids, I know the importance of documenting memories, which we want to hold forever in our hearts. People grow and change, yet photos remain the same. I'm a natural-light photographer, and I specialize in high school seniors/teens, maternity, couples, families, and dancers.
