Being an active listener, demonstrating patience, and planning with the end result in mind have helped me as both a teacher and photographer. I'm a natural-light photographer, and I specialize in high school seniors & teens, maternity, families, and dancers on location. ​I LOVE shooting in the desert with warm golden light and cotton candy sunsets. But if deserts aren’t for you, then I know lots of hidden gems that look nothing like the desert. Classic sessions and senior sessions include your location choice within the Valley, and I’m always happy to help with location and/or outfit ideas. I love all things style so I've got you covered with what to wear and how to get photo-ready!! My goal is to document you, as you really are, in beautiful natural light. Photographing mamas with their babies (when they’re little and older too!) is one of my favorite things. Fall will be here before we know it, and so will the sunflower fields. 🌻 If you’re interested in a family or senior session in the sunflowers, please DM me. Permits are limited. Sunflowers will be available late August through most of October.

Scheduling tip: Weekdays are MUCH less crowded than the weekends, especially in October!

That was fast. It’s hard to believe that the first half of the year is already over! It’s hard to think about planning outfits with sweaters or letterman jackets when it’s 110 right now, but fall will be here before we know it, and so will busy school schedules.

If you’re wanting to book Senior Pictures or Family Photos, my fall calendar opens tomorrow at 10am for subscribers and at 10am on July 3rd to everyone. Weekends in October and November always sell out first so set your alarm if you want a session between September-December because I hate turning people away who inquire at the last minute.

Hello! ☀️ I’m Cher, the face behind Cher Photography AZ.

I picked up my first DSLR camera after my daughter and son were born to document their childhood. I photographed their birthdays, milestones, and time with friends. What started as a hobby turned into taking pictures of my friends’ kids and families, then starting my small business. I LOVE photographing kids, teens, and families. My passion and specialties are seniors and families. I’m located in Surprise, but I travel throughout the Valley. I love warm color, authentic emotions, a mix of posed and unposed/prompted images, and movement in my photos. When you book a session, it’s important to me to prepare my clients for their session by offering styling guidance and location suggestions based on your outfits’ colors and vibe so that locations and outfits are harmonious. During your session, I give lots of directions with prompts and posing so you won’t have time to think about feeling awkward. My goal is for you to have fun at your session!

This is a mom post. Her 8th grade promotion is this week, then onto high school in the fall. A big part of me is sad how the last 9 years since she started Kindergarten have flown by, but I’m working on staying in the present and appreciating this stage. A positive attitude is everything. We started late, and it was a windy day for her Senior Session, but we looked for the positive and ended having a fun and gorgeous session. I wouldn’t have found these purple wildflowers if we had started on time, the wind calmed down a little bit, and the crowds dwindled down by the time we started the session. Before taking her (early) birthday photos, we went on our annual horseback riding tradition in the wash behind her. It was a beautiful and fun ride, but it got increasingly cloudy and breezy so by the time we took pictures, it was cold and windy, but 100% worth it. 🩵

If you’re looking for a trail ride, we loved 🩵 The wranglers were informative and helpful, the trail was gorgeous, and we didn’t want to say goodbye to our horses. 🥰

The adventures of a boy and his stuffy…🥰 My mama heart was swooning over this sweet one year old who recently learned how to walk. For this session, I had an idea of the area I wanted him to stay within, but for the most part, my goal was just to follow him around as he walked around, played with leaves, bubbles, and his stuffy. We started the new year with a roadtrip to Sedona with my photographer bestie, and this might be a new annual tradition. I've been wanting family photos in Sedona for YEARS, and I'm grateful we finally made this happen! We did so many of our favorite things = A roadtrip to Sedona + hiking + good food + even better company. If you're looking for a family or couples photo session that includes hiking and/or Sedona, let's do it!

My Story

Why, hello there. Thanks for stopping by! I'm Cheryl, but call me Cher. I live in the West Valley, near Phoenix, AZ. I'm also a third grade teacher. I didn’t realize until recently how much teaching and photography would overlap. Being an active listener, demonstrating patience, and planning with the end result in mind have helped me as both a teacher and photographer. As a mom to two kids, I know the importance of documenting memories, which we want to hold forever in our hearts. People grow and change, yet photos remain the same. I'm a natural-light photographer, and I specialize in high school seniors/teens, maternity, couples, families, and dancers. ​I love shooting in the desert with warm golden light and cotton candy sunsets; yet I know lots of hidden gems, which look nothing like the desert, if your prefer. Classic sessions and high school senior sessions include your location choice within the Valley, and I’m always happy to help with location and/or outfit ideas.
