Such an incredible honor to Celebrate the life of this beautiful woman. S was a brilliant, bright light and a force of creative, love-filled passion for life, her work, community and especially her husband and children. Gone way too soon. So many came to say their farewells and to share sweet, funny and heart-touching stories. As her oldest daughter spoke a beautiful soft white butterfly entered the tent over S's casket, gently flew by her daughter and then by the large photo of her and then disappeared. I believe so strongly that our Loved Ones live on even after death and find ways to let us know they are with us. Hug your family, friends and anyone you can get your hands on...we never know when it will be our time to depart this world. Thank you to S's friend C and her husband H for trusting me to guide you all through this utterly tender ceremony to honor your beautiful S. May you all be held in such love and S may all that light that is YOU now be free to be shared with the whole cosmos.
S's parents are from Hong Kong and they chose her resting place just down the slope from Bruce Lee's grave. We know that Bruce will be her guardian angel and will watch over her as they both dance through the universe. Thank you to the other family members and friends who contributed to this amazing celebration and to the staff at Lakeview Cemetery for the kind caring attention to all the details of laying S to rest.

A & A got married yesterday at the magical, enchanting Ruins. What a match made in heaven setting for this precious, match made in heaven couple. They spent eight years falling in love, well actually that happened on the first date, when A asked A if they could make out at the end of the evening and he said yes!!!
They kept saying yes, under the stars, on travel adventures, on a very special waterfront log that became their engagement celebration, all the way to their wedding yesterday when their vows, commitments and more yeses brought forth laughter, tears and community joy. When you have invested this deeply in not only finding the fun in life but the powerful courage to grow together, you are prepared for the long marriage road ahead. Thank you beautiful A and soulful A for trusting me to help you cross the threshold into your Happily Ever After. I am so confident that that sometimes trite saying actually will hold true for you.
At the end of each ceremony, I say to the guests that it takes a whole village to keep one marriage strong and thriving so please continue to support the couple through the coming years and decades. It also takes a village of vendors to make one wedding this beautiful seamless and special. Thank you to each of you. I feel so blessed to be surronded by all of your creativity and professional talents. This one was a memory maker for sure.

Weekend wedding #3 This was one I was truly looking forward to and wow what a joy to help J&A celebrate their love and say their vows. Chateau Lill is one of my very favorite venues and it was dressed up in stunning white florals that took my breath away. One of the things I find so delightful is that I get the honor of standing right in the middle of the ceremony display and I always take a moment before we begin to greet the flowers and let them know how much I adore having them as my support team for the role of officiating. So well done!!!

J&A are both pretty low key and also so kind and easy going. After six years together, they were as married as possible and yet they put their full hearts into their vows and brought forth such happy tears from their Loved Ones. Such tender, fun and genuine understanding of what those simple words, “ I Do” truly mean.

One fun thing that J&A and I have in common is a love for Formula One Car Racing. I had the delight of attending a live race when I was in college and these two have regular dates for watching the races from around the world on television. My parting wish for them during the ceremony was that they would one day get to experience the race live! Right then the groom announced, “we are going on our honeymoon to do just that in Italy!” I always try to keep my professional decorum during ceremonies but I was so excited I blurted out - “What? That is amazing! Can I come?” which thankfully was met with chuckles and laughter. No Grace, the officiant does not get to go on the honeymoon.

I could not be happier for you J&A, not only for your honeymoon but for your future. You took your time to build a solid foundation before getting married and now you have everything you need for your wonderful next chapters.

Thank you to the whole team, led by the amazing Krisanna , who brought all the beauty to life for J&A. There are so many details, decisions, and puzzle pieces to fit together for a wedding, and knowing how to do that so that it looks and feels seamless is truly an art form.

Weekend Wedding #2
It is always such a delight to arrive at a new venue and to see how the wedding magic has been brought to life. Gold Mountain Golf Course is not only an impressive place to play golf but it has the most enchanting wedding ceremony space in a grove of pines lit up with strings of lights and soft rays of sunshine. For X & Z there was also a stunning colorful floral arch and beautiful white chairs for their guests. We were all shuttled to the site by golf carts which was also a fun and new experience.

X & Z are two of the many young Chinese people who had the courage to leave their homeland as teenagers to come to America to start new lives. I reflected on what trust that must take and also how neither of them had any idea that they would eventually meet their life partner here in their new homeland.

I love included handfasting in wedding ceremonies and especially for these very special all Chinese weddings as this ritual originated in their country and it is tied to a wonderful myth about Yue Lao, the god of love and marriage who tied a red thread around the feet of the couples he chose for marriage. It is said that once the red thread has been tied, fate and destiny will keep the bond strong and steadfast no matter what challenges or difficulties or even distance might come to the couple.
It is delightful to come to the part of the ceremony when I mention Yue Lao and watch all the faces of the guests light up. Both sets of parents came all the way from China for the wedding and some of the people present did not speak English so to see the recognition of this beloved myth is such a sweet moment of connection and inclusion of their culture in the ceremony.

X& Z also spoke their vows in their native language. Thankfully I had a copy of them in English so I knew what they were saying. Such heartflet words laced with both endearments and understanding that marriage is not just about love and romance but about building a life together and being good partners in their day to day lives, and over the years and decades ahead.

More from Arya and Marissa's magnificent Lairmont Manor multicultural wedding. Such a creative, fun and affirming experience of love bringing together diverse traditions, beliefs, families and community. And never did I ever get to offer a pot of honey to a couple for sharing sweet tastes to each other. The mandate from our bride was "no honey on my dress!" The rich elements of the Sofrah Aghd table and Sugar Shower from the groom's Persian and B'hai faith were such gorgeous elements that added to the uniqueness and beauty of this celebration. The bride's reading from Carl Sagan brought the balance of acknowledging that truly life is a mystery and in the midst of what can seem like pure randomness, having life give the gift of this kind of deep pure and abiding love is surely the greatest reason to celebrate and rejoice. Thank you Arya and Marissa for the delight of guiding you through this beautiful ceremony and celebration of your love. May all the gifts bestowed upon you on your wedding day continue to nurture you in the years to come.
