On February 4th, Malaya had the honor of catering a reception in Genoa, NV.

told us how she thought it would be “meaningful” to serve Filipino food at the reception since her beloved mother is a Filipina. They specifically requested a plate for their mother with deep fried fish, which was her favorite. We are so thankful that all the details worked out for this catering event to happen.

On the menu:

* Ginataan for Dessert

We love Kamayan! 🇵🇭

We love to see people embracing this Filipino tradition that allows family and friends to gather and connect with each other and with food in such a special way.

We get really excited when someone reaches out and asks for our catering. We feel honored that, in this simple way, we are able to share our food and culture with our community ❤️

And of course, we love hearing from our customers! We appreciate you all taking the time to give us your feedback because your words help us continually find meaning in what we do. Maraming salamat po!

Change, as we have been told, is the only constant thing in this world, and is unarguably essential for growth.

As we embrace change, we are reminded to remain mindful and respectful. We will move forward with grateful hearts for all the experiences that led us to this point. And we will stay positive that everything will turn out to be for the very best 💚

And speaking of change, we are changing our menu a bit! You said you missed our rice options, and so we are bringing back the and the on our menu starting this Sunday, January 19th! We’re also serving your other favorites: Pancit Vegan, Pancit + Tapa, and Lumpia.

With a clear weather forecast for Sunday, we hope you’d stop by to grab some delicious eats or simply to say hi! See you at Idlewild Park, 9am to 1pm :)

At one of our events this past summer, our unique menu caught the attention of the person in-charge of managing food truck vending operations for several facilities in the area. She shared with us that we were also observed on how we interacted with our customers. Our menu and customer service led them to contact us and invite us to serve our food at the Tesla Gigafactory and Redwood Materials.

To be honest, we were expecting the cold season to be a “slow” season for a mobile food unit like us. This is why we consider the opportunity of regularly serving at the above mentioned facilities such as blessing that came at a perfect timing. And this is why we feel so thankful for all the folks over there for giving us the warmest welcome.

As other opportunities for growth continue to present to us, we are still amazed on how our pop-up tent “let’s see what happens” adventure continues to surprise us with the endless possibilities. If there is any lesson worth sharing here, it is that when you set your intentions right and you do your best to do others right, the positivity naturally flows and comes back to you in ways you may have never expected.

We might have missed singing 🎶 happy birthday 🎶 to this amazing person yesterday at the market; but we will never miss the chance to give her a shoutout and to let her know how much she is appreciated and loved!

We are so grateful for you, Emma! [And for the whole team, of course!] Thank you so much for keeping our community in beautiful order, for working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly week after week, and for always having that bright smile on your face! We appreciate you more than you know ❤️

Photo taken at this year’s holiday bazaar. Emma was cleaning up and taking down the decorations. It sure was a looong day for her… having no sleep and getting everything going at 5:00am while it was dark and freezing at the park. Even with all that and more, she never fails to show up with the most positive attitude and that beautiful smile!

We have so much gratitude to those who have chosen to be a part of our Malaya Family. Meet the one who we can count on to cover any station at the truck masterfully, Joshua !

Aren met Josh through work in 2018, and was very well impressed with his chef skills at such a young age. In March 2024, as Malaya was gearing up for the busy spring and summer months, Josh joined the team. We were all so excited to have him!

Joshua was born and raised in Guangdong, China, and moved to the U.S. eight years ago. He has been working as a chef since he was 19 years old. He shared that becoming a chef has always been his dream since he was little — a dream that was inspired by his own father. According to Josh, his father is an excellent chef, and he always prepared delicious meals for their family. Josh admires his father and wants to be like him — someone who prepares tasty dinner for the family as everyone shares about their day at the dinner table.

Joshua and his wife, Amy just got married this year. Being a funny guy when he wants to be, Josh shared a fun fact about them: she married him because she couldn’t resist his secret recipe — love… and a little bit of garlic! Lol 😆

P.S. Have you recently tried Malaya’s chili oil? Josh made that from scratch using his family’s recipe! We all think it’s excellent 👌 what do you think?

We have so much gratitude to those who have chosen to be a part of our Malaya Family. Meet the exceptionally skillful Juan Pablo!

Pablo started working with us intermittently in July 2023, and then regularly in January 2024. When Aren worked with Pablo back in 2018, Aren knew that Pablo would be a part of his food truck team. Aren has deep admiration for Pablo’s work ethics, humility, and dedication to his craft.

Pablo graces us with the most positive attitude and his incomparable kitchen experience of 23 solid years. He shared that the most important lesson he has learned in food service is to always focus on the quality of the food, and to be consistent to make sure that the people will want to come back.

Pablo was born and raised in Zacatecas, Mexico, and moved to the U.S. when he was 18 years old. He has been a Reno resident for 20 years. Together with his wife, Kassandra, and their children, Jeovanni and Rosemarie, Pablo enjoys trips to Tahoe and walks at the park. He loves cars, auto detailing, and taking apart pieces and putting them together.

What about some ramen + steamed buns? Yes, please!!! Presenting another new addition to our menu starting TOMORROW 11/3! Pork steamed buns* with shoyu au jus sauce* pickled cucumber* and chopped green onions. *organic ingredients

In the Philippines, we all loved the Siopao or Filipino Steamed Buns growing up. We would enjoy a warm siopao filled with either chicken or pork as our merienda, or pair it with some noodle soup for lunch or dinner. At Malaya, we would like to offer you our simple take on steamed buns with a tender slice of pork, our special shoyu au jus sauce, some pickled cucumber, and chopped green onions.

It is important to note that our steamed buns will *not* be “bright white” as we have been accustomed to when it comes to other kind of steamed buns, which use flour that are heavily treated with chemicals. At Malaya, we will always choose to use organic unbleached flour. Moreover, we are *not* adding other weird ingredients in it to improve its rising, to make it fluffier, or other dough conditioners. Just simple, clean ingredients for Malaya as always. 💚

We are SUPER excited to share with you Malaya’s *NEW* item offering for the cold season — the Chicken Tinola Ramen! 🍜 Ramen noodles* and shoyu chicken* in savory chicken-ginger* stock. Sprinkled with green onions. *organic ingredients

The Chicken Tinola, our family’s favorite dish, is traditionally made with chicken, ginger, garlic, onion, broth, leafy greens, and papaya (or chayote squash). It is soothing, comforting, and simply delicious! Staying true to Malaya’s mission to bring you dishes that showcase Chef JP’s freedom in culinary arts, our chicken tinola ramen will definitely remind you of this traditional Filipino dish with our own signature on it. We’re so appreciative of every one in our community who are always looking for ways to support local businesses. As we celebrate , we recognize the efforts, big and small, of all those who consistently show us the beauty of building each other up.

* Tapa Sliders - seared marinated organic grass-fed beef steak, organic slaw with vinaigrette dressing, and fancy aioli in sweet roll.
* Pancit + Chicken - stir-fried organic wheat noodles with organic bell pepper, celery, and onion; served with crispy fried chicken tenders.

The changing of seasons is calling us to try new adventures at Malaya!

Starting TOMORROW Thursday, 9/26 through Saturday, 9/28, we’ll be joining the Fall Rally in Virginia City! You read that right, it will be our first time vending at historic !

Music, Metal, Motorcycles! We’re excited to serve our food at one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the nation! This *FREE* event features live music on multiple outdoor stages, vendor booths, poker runs, scavenger hunts, arts and crafts, and of course, a huge variety of two-wheeled pieces of art! 🏍️

Malaya is a “little passion project,” said one of our dearest market friends. And I would say that this is such a perfect description for who we are and what we do.

Today, I am taking a moment to appreciate and honor these gentlemen who have generously shared their time and skills, and meticulously delivered delicious food and outstanding service for another Malaya event that was truly 👌

On September 8, 2024, Malaya had the honor of catering Rowena + Jason wedding day! It was our second wedding catering of the year and our first time doing a buffet service for 150 guests.

Amazing. Delicious. Outstanding. Ang Sarap!
Some of the adjectives we were told when we asked how the food was. On the menu:

* Filipino Style Grilled Chicken Barbecue
* Oxtail & Beef Kare Kare
* Baked Salmon with Lemon Garlic Sauce & Spinach
* Organic Green Salad
* Organic Pancit Vegan
* Organic Steamed Basmati Rice

We love how they appreciated not only the food but also all the care and hard work our team put in to ensure that everything ran smoothly before, during, and after the catering service. The best part, as all the Titas and Titos would agree, is having a lot of leftovers for everyone to take and enjoy at home!

Rowena & Jason, thank you so much again for the opportunity to be a part of your special day! Wishing you both the very best on your new chapter together! See you guys again soon 💕
