It's a long way from Turkey Scratch, Arkansas to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Levon Helm made the journey. He learned to play a number of instruments but he is best known as a drummer. He worked with Ronnie Hawkins and Bob Dylan before he and is bandmates where known simply as THE BAND.
If Levon was still playing on earth, he would be celebrating his 83rd birthday today. We lost him on April 19, 2012 when he lost his battle with cancer.
The man and his music are true American treasures.
