It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself so here we go ✨

My full name is Alexia, but I’ve literally never gone by that name, you can call me Lexi or Lex. Yes, my last name is Couture (thank you husband) and it makes choosing a business name really easy and securing an insta handle no one else has really really difficult.

💕I love living in Lansing with my two rad daughters, my handsome and insanely supportive husband, and my two goofy kitties. I love Lansing, and will complain about this town while also being the first to defend it if you start to talk s**t.

🎥 My love for video production started back in 11th grade (2009) and I started Couture Videography in 2016 while I was pregnant with my first daughter. I have a photo of me holding my film and video degree while holding my belly at the same time, it rules, I should probably frame it. My passion is for making gorgeous videos with a minimalist-style production, and my favorite part of my job are the stories I hear and the people I meet along the way.

💛I have suffered from anxiety disorder for as long as I can remember and will talk your ear off about the importance of mental health and self care. I proudly take care of myself by taking antidepressants and moving my body which, btw, have you heard of Fitness Marshall? He makes you laugh and love your body while you dance and it’s another thing I could talk about forever.

👀 I’m super insecure about my increasingly hooded eyes and am probably thinking about not looking pi**ed off while talking to you.

🥗 I am a massive foodie so don’t be surprised if I often share me or my husband’s creations. I am so obsessed with everything I eat tasting delicious that my husband taught himself how to cook butter chicken, breadsticks, Zuppa Toscana, and more to keep our takeout budget low.

When Ben first reached out to me to be their wedding videographer, I knew from the get go it was going to be an incredible way to ring in the new year. Ben and Lily’s wedding was a legendary celebration of the Lansing community and it felt amazing to be there, capturing memories among such talented people, their friends and family. Btw, Lily is my hero and left it ALL on the dance floor, giving me the opportunity to do what I do best: bounce around and dance with my camera to 90s covers from Be Kind Rewind. I could gush about their wedding for ages but simply put, it was a beautiful thing to see Ben and Lily come together, and it was an absolute pleasure to be their videographers.

We finished up our 2022 season ringing in the new year with Ben + Lily and it was simply awesome!!! I can't begin to describe how great it felt to finish up my 7th season of weddings working alongside my husband, especially in a tent full of cool Lansing locals. Can't wait to share so much more of these two very soon 🥰

When I first received an inquiry from Aly, I was stoked. We had an awesome time shooting her sister's wedding the previous year and Aly + Chris' gorgeous industrial wedding in Indiana did not disappoint. The venue, the details, the lit dance floor (who knew Mr. Brightside would be the key to luring all the millennials to the dance floor??) & everything else in between made this day a dream to capture. Thanks for having us Aly + Chris ❤️

Hard truth: you have to do it. Sometimes. I’m a very frugal/minimalistic videographer. Buying new gear rarely brings me joy (except for unboxing & camera test day, that’s always fun) because I always used to view it as money I was taking away from my family. I started this business as a pregnant recent film graduate with no money to my name, so being frugal in my expenses was a necessity. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. I was fortunate enough to learn early on that you don’t always have to stay up to date with all the newest equipment and trends, there will always be something newer. It’s not the camera, but who’s behind it. This is an important lesson. I took that to heart. Theeeen a few years back I found myself at an event where the photographer joked about my thicc 4” LED light (“when’d you but that, 2015?” “Actually, yes.”) and realized putting a little bit of money into your business is always worth it. Growth in technology is exponential and it’s never going to stop, so a little upgrading every year is a must. But it doesn’t have to be big scary overwhelming purchases all the time. Just buy the new mics, maybe a B cam (goodbye forever, DSLRS!!) and your future self will thank you. Especially during tax season.

Setting up livestreams for college lectures always brings me back to my first non retail or food service job about 10 years ago, when I was a student A/V tech at GVSU. All I need is a bright blue vest and a longboard to ride between buildings.

Not going to try to hide it, it’s taking me a while to warm up to the holidays this year. Financial stress, work deadlines, family struggles are all taking their toll, and I feel like the holiday season snuck up on me faster than ever before. I’ve watched several of my go to Christmas movies already (Klaus & the Holiday anyone???) and none of them have managed to hit me the way they usually do. Then I remembered I didn’t get the chance to share an extra special, 50 year anniversary vow renewal I shot last Christmas. And I bet my heart grew three sizes today because I am tearing up at last.

From their huge open hearts to their love for beer & donuts, when we met Jade and Ashley, it was love at first sight for us too 😍 As a queer-owned business every month is pride month, but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to once again highlight one of the sweetest couples ever 💕 see their full wedding in my bio!!

Hey, I’m Alexia Couture, but you can call me Lex.

And yes, that’s my real last name (thank you, husband). My filmmaking career started all the way back in ‘09 when I took my first digital media class in high school and became OBSESSED with the art form. I received my bachelor of arts degree in film and video production at Grand Valley State University. GVSU has a special place in my heart because it is where I met my soulmate, my life partner, my dream boi, my second shooter, Nick Couture, who also has his bachelors in film production. We met while making a documentary about “hook-up culture” and connected instantly when we discovered our shared love for house shows and indie films at the UICA. In February of 2016, I was unemployed and pregnant. After a few soul crushing job interviews I stopped being afraid of sharing my art with the world and created Couture Videography, with Nick by my side. And y’all, from the very first wedding, I was hooked. I never imagined how much I would fall in love with wedding, family, and small business filmmaking, but four years later I’m still obsessed with the art form. I shoot and edit films that are artistically composed - with a major focus on personality. If I capture your groom gushingly whisper how beautiful you look while you stand together at the altar, you betcha I’m gonna include that in your wedding film.
