Rock Steady Events convo with Laura LaPlante (Mauve Lloyd)

Saturday Night Pink Floyd trib Mauve Lloyd live at Crystal Bees;
*Here is a preview with keyboardist Laura LaPlante*

Rock Steady Events: How did Mauve Lloyd happen?

Laura ' We were born on a blanket at Hopkins Vineyard, June 2012--where a few of us local musician pals figured out we all loved Pink Floyd a bit more than may be healthy. From there we came up with this crazy idea of how cool it would be to cover the Wall in its entirety, so we secured our buddy's place in the old Ax Factory in Collinsville to perform it...until his landlord found out. (Careful with that ax factory Eugene!) Lucky for us--the Old Well Tavern-Simsbury gave us a last minute stage, and our humble little Floyd tribute was born. We've come so far, and our love for Floyd has grown deeper every show.

How is Mauve Lloyd unique from other Floyd tributes?

Laura 'We all know there are far too many 'cookie-cutter' Floyd tributes in the Northeast--but none perform the music quite as raw as us. Over the years we've become the staple Floyd band at several venues and festivals throughout the NE-- from Harry's Happening in Starks, ME to Yasgurs Farm Woodstock reunion in Bethel, NY. We utilize a variety of special guests from bands such as Kung Fu/Twiddle, West End Blend, Jelly, Mihali Band, Lee Ross, and even a Broadway performer or two.
To sum it up--we're raw, we jam, we take the music places that others wouldn't think to.'

You were not even born when Dark Side and The Wall were released..how did you learn to love Pink Floyd?

Laura:' I'll never forget the first time I heard Pink Floyd--from the top of my bunk bed, the sound of my sister's new CD the Wall playing in the other room, and my first thought was- "this is weird, but I like it" The haunting tone of "Is there anybody out there" still lives rent-free in my head to this day!'

What to expect this Saturday Night?

Laura: 'Saturday night at Bees is gonna be a blast! We have an excellent set list planned out, as well as two very special guests--one of which may or may not have just gotten back from performing on Broadway'

Last night, I saw Neil Young and Crazy Horse in concert. Let me tell you, this show was the perfect summer night. It was great to be outdoors at Toronto's Budweiser Stage and reunite with his crew, family & friends, sound man Tim Mulligan & his manager.

If you had polled the audience for a perfect setlist, it couldn't have been any better on this sold out show. Hits and album cuts back to back with everyone singing along to Neil's signature mix of rock and country- Heart of Gold, There Comes a Time and so many more, followed by a double encore.

Neil and I go back to Winnipeg in the 60's. We've stayed connected all these years and collaborated together. It's always great to see him and his wife Daryl.

Dickey Betts, who died in April, was the most intimidating member of the Allman Brothers, but he also came up with the band's most beautiful songs.

DP Bruce Taylor of TaylorVision Productions and I recently sat down with The Capitol Theatre & Brooklyn Bowl owner and Relix Magazine publisher Peter Shapiro in his NYC offices for the Watkins Glen Summer Jam - the documentary ;

Peter was fantastic talking about the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers and The Band and their legacy at Watkins Glen Summer Jam and how the 3 bands absolutely paved those roads that still go on forever for the thriving Jam Bands industry ; this film is in production and (with equity investors) hopes to be completed by the end of the year

It was with "Thank You," a song dedicated to his wife, Maureen, that Robert is believed to have made his debut as Led Zeppelin's lyricist. In the studio version Jimmy Page sang background on this. You can hear him sing with Plant during the line, "Little drops of rain" until the part where Plant goes "My, my, my." This also became a showcase for John Paul Jones' keyboard work during live shows.

A little fact about these lyrics, "If the sun refuse to shine" and "When mountains crumble to the sea" came from a Jimi Hendrix song called "If 6 Was 9."

"I've never stopped listening to vinyl." I was really disappointed when the CDs came out because I didn't like the way they sounded. So much was lost with CDs, and then with MP3s, they took away much of the depth, all panoramic quality in three-dimensional, or even five-dimensional audio experience. So cool to see the revival of vinyl. Besides sound, there is the touch experience, the art, the notes you can read without using a magnifying glass, and the act of putting on an album. "It's a charming little ritual I never tire of." - Jimmy Page
