It’s such an honor to have been a student of such an accomplished professor for over last 20 years. Congratulations Kimiko Gunji Sensei!

Today we’re honoring our final 2023 Legacy Award recipient Kimiko Gunji. Professor Gunji was selected for the Illinois Arts Legacy Award for her significant impact on the arts at Illinois. She played a crucial role in establishing the current Japan House facility that was dedicated in 1998 and served as director until 2012. Under Professor Gunji, Japan House enlarged its roster of classes and programs, also collaborating with other units and organizations to bring Japanese artists and performers to places like Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Krannert Art Museum, and the Spurlock Museum.
