Finally got around to painting this fishman mask I sculpted a long time ago.

Sculpted in foam clay on a bought papier mache mask base, sealed with flexbond, tamiya primer. Painted with acrylics and clear coated.

Been working on Steve, from accounting these school holidays. He's got feet and a lightweight armatured tail (so it can wag). I've been sculpting and moulding pads for the hands and soles for the feet and cast them in silicone. Most recently I've been working on the hands, here they are complete except for a bit of paint. I hope to paint the claws tomorrow, airbrushing I'll leave for a bit until the body's been started.

This year's gingerbread house. Fancy!
I put an extension on it, would have made an edible car or sleigh but this thing already took faaar too long to decorate.

To do all the gingerbread decoration this year took four movies (Uzumaki, Army of Darkness, Dr. Strange and Thor: Ragnarok) and three episodes of Look Around You. My back still hurts!

Ah, paper patternmaking. The "hit it until it works" method - AKA kindergarten crafts go pro. Take sheets of paper, slash 'em, slap tape on 'em and add bits until it's vaguely the right shape, draw on the boundaries and flatten. Voila! Sexy foam pattern.

People think there's a secret to making good paper shapes. There is - it's scissors, tape and faffing around until it's good!

Minotaur fetlock test pattern.

A quick movement test of the minotaur tail.

Minotaur mask - done! Now, feet and tail. Came out lovely, I think. Base mould, tongue and jawset by Crystumes.

I've been very under the weather lately hence the lack of activity, but I did finally manage to get the horns and skin on the moo man.
Next is a proper trim, more NFT fur accents and a neck piece.

Ever wondered why fursuits are so pricey? This is the pattern I just completed for the face of the minotaur. Has to be painstakingly cut and hand sewn.
Not to mention also that the materials are amazingly expensive too :P

I had a lot of issues with my spray paint for some reason, so after a day of stinky turps I've finally hand painted the horns instead. Use what works! They look pretty decent, I think. Now I get 'em on to the head and start patterning.

Moo man got foam. Far more grump and chonk.

Another item being slowly ticked off the past "thing I meant to make" list is this minotaur/cowbeast I've been working on.
I bought the mask blank mould from the fabulously talented Crystumes a while back and have been meaning to make some bovine babs from it. They also threw in a tongue and the jawset mould, which are entirely wonderful. Check out their work, it's stunning! I hope to do their sculpting justice with my moo dude here.

It's mainly pieces right now, this moo mouth assembly being the latest. It's all being thrown together slowly - next is foam mods to the mask base, eyelids and jawset installation/gums.

These are test casts from moulds I made yesterday from a pair of bull horns. They came out nice! Very little cleanup needed.

It's a process, making moulds. Glove moulds in particular. I made these thin enough to just invert so they don't need seams. Also used plaster bandages for a mother mould for the first time. They're fun to apply! Far quicker than the other stuff I've used too. I think they'll become my go-to for small moulds now. Not as strong or rigid as the trowelable plastics I've done before but it takes a fraction of the time and prep -no clay walls or mixing, just cut, fold, wet squeeze and slap on. Great stuff.
