I have waited 23 years to make this post. What does breaking generational curses actually look like? For me, it is being the first person in my family to graduate from a university. It is recognizing a generational pattern of toxic behaviors, and saying, it ends with me. We can start our own pattern of generation blessings.

Growing up, the only person I had to look up to was my dad, an Army Airborne Ranger veteran, and blue-collar worker. He is amazing. I didn't have a woman role model or a woman to guide me in the ways a mom should guide her daughters. I will guide you better because I had no one to guide me.

We were not taught how to communicate with people in healthy ways. The family's go-to was just to have an argument and ignore people for months and years. The cycle of poor communication is still going, but it ends with us. I have taught you better because no one taught me better.

I didn't have a woman to watch succeed in life. I watched women behave horribly, speak horribly, become addicted to drugs, and live off of the government. They were stuck in the poverty trap. I will succeed because I didn't have a woman role model, and you deserve to have one.

There were times when I wanted to quit, and even thought I couldn’t do it. The proudest day of my life was walking for my diploma in 2010, until I watched you walk for yours, in the same building, across the same stage but in 2023.

There are memes and videos online that say college isn't worth anything. I take this personally, and I take it to heart. My daughter and college saved my life. College taught me how to think and how to question everything. College taught me to speak and speak well in crowded rooms of strangers. College taught me how to succeed in life, how to find myself, how to be confident, and how to be the woman you deserve as a mom.

If you think college isn't worth anything, you're right, because it's priceless. It is the one thing we have that no one can take from us. It is the thing we have that guides us and shows us better ways of thinking and doing. I am so freaking proud to be your mom.

I have waited my entire life to see the Auroras. When I walked outside my house last night, I was overcome with emotions. I was ugly crying, and Avery came out, and I asked her to pray with me. I've never felt this close to God.

I remember being in Las Vegas, and a photographer from California shared pictures of his expedition to Mt. Everest, and he described the clouds and scenery as "a God moment." I am so blessed to know what that feels like now.
