Our Story
Calling all Candy creatures and rock ‘n’ roll freaks, this is The Candy Vortex; an artist collective based in Newcastle Upon Tyne that will EXCITE YOU, FRIGHT YOU and GET YOU MOVING! Conceived in the minds of three local lasses who were sick of being let down by local male saturated gigs and club nights, TCV was born kicking and screaming in 2012. The trio began putting on mind-bending gigs that mashed together their art and favourite music, creating a completely one-off atmosphere like no other. For each event, TCV made (and still makes!) unique handmade décor and DIY visuals, creating something more than just another mundane club night playing mundane music, in a mundane setting.
TCV puts on the bands / performers / artists - HECK (formerly Baby Godzilla), Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Kaspar Hauser, Comanechi, Girl Sweat - that people want to see, plays the music they want to dance to - Lydia Lunch, Joan Jett, Nina Hagen - and create settings that blow people's minds.
Since its creation, The Candy Vortex has evolved and manifested in different ways. TCV are now hired by people and bands alike to create unique decor and visuals for events, have a regular DJ post at Ernest, feature and collaborate at showcases such as The Late Shows and attend art markets selling their own line of apparel, artwork and hand-crafted items.
It's the unbridled enthusiasm of the TCV lasses which resonates with all in attendance (who ultimately join in with the glitter-coated celebrations) that sees people eagerly awaiting their future events.
