Sometimes, life takes a different turn and plans must change. I've had to bow out of playing at Moontribe New Years Day Vibe | by Subtract & Moon Kitty as my Dad has entered hospice after a valiant journey through brain cancer, and I need to be by his and my Mom's side as we navigate his final chapter.

My sincere apologies to friends and followers for the late notice. I was cooking up a fun set for you all, so perhaps I will find a way to share that set sometime in the future, once this family chapter has come to a close.

Hug your loved ones, tell them you love them. Every moment with them is precious time and you never know how much time you might have. 💜

Being asked to make a mix for a label is a special kind of creative challenge. Diving in deep to a label's releases to find the nuggets that coalesce into a mix can yield all sorts of surprises - especially if it's a label I'm less familiar with.

I did it back in 2010 for Dubmission Records' 15th anniversary (the mix is called "Therein Lies the Dub" - link below in comments) and this month another label-specific mix was released for DiN Records, the legendary modular synth label headed up by Ian Boddy.

I'm pleased with how this mix turned out. I now feel like I have a much better understanding of the marvel of analog modular synth music - where surprise and discovery are part of the process.

And now for something completely different.

Last year, I was asked to create a mix from the back catalog of DiN Records to celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2024. DiN specializes in experimental ambient and downtempo electronica with a heavy focus on modular synth music, helmed by a pioneer in the field, Ian Boddy. The range of music offered a refreshing shift from the tunes that typically grace my playlists, and I was instantly enthralled. I'm honored to have participated in this celebration of indie music.

The mix is now available on the DiN Bandcamp page as a free download/name your price offering. It's Bandcamp Friday, so any contributions made for this mix will maximize profit for this amazing indie label. Link below.

Last summer I used a 3rd party service to upload playlists of mine from my local media library to Spotify, only to discover after the fact that sometimes that adds completely WRONG tracks to the playlists. Derp!

I was playing one of them on random one day, some really spacious and delicate music, when - to my shock and dismay - suddenly a death metal tune came on that happened to have the same title as one of the tunes in my playlist. Not the vibe, haha.

So, I made all the playlists private so I could review them one at a time and compare to the playlists on my computer, which is no easy feat when many of them have hundreds if not thousands of tunes in them. Slowly I have been working through them when I have time.

I've finally posted a bunch of them there to share. The ones that are mood-based are the ones that inspired me to transfer them in the first place - you can find them by looking for the ones that have my DJ Maggie logo as a playlist image. The others are tracklists for mixes I've released.

None of the playlists are complete, as not all music in my personal library is available on Spotify; but there are enough tunes in each of the mood-based ones to keep you going for hours.

I first discovered Kino Doscun's music with his EP "Sphaira" in 2021, and I was instantly transported to another realm with his intelligent sound design and dub sensibilities. The way he works an oud just tickles my brain and soul, and I've been a fan ever since. He's got a new EP out and I asked him to craft a DJ set to showcase his new release, "Abis", and he did not disappoint! This set, "Adventures in the Abis", has so many pleasing elements to it, and I'm proud to share that it will be featured this coming weekend on Radiozora.fm. If you can catch one of the 3 airtimes, I highly recommend it! The set will be posted to Radiozora's Soundcloud page a few weeks from now, for endless listens. Check it out!
