Today I am grateful for the abundance of the earth. I’m reminded of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s words from one of my all time favourite books, Braiding Sweetgrass.

“Even a wounded world is feeding us. Even a wounded world holds us, giving us moments of wonder and joy. I choose joy over despair. Not because I have my head in the sand, but because joy is what the earth gives me daily and I must return the gift.”

Radical hope is a choice and an action. It’s not something that just finds us. We have to leave space for joy and celebration because that is the way we imagine a liberated world.

I know I haven’t been posting on here so much lately and I’m just going to come out and tell you why. The truth is that I’ve been struggling with the irksomeness of selling. I’m personally tired of being constantly sold to. It feels gross, the world feels too heavy, and it all feels unimportant compared to what’s going on in the world.

But I realised (or rather, remembered) something. Joy, celebration and ritual matters. Ceremony and coming together in community matters. More than ever. And we’re human so as long as we are alive, we’ll never stop marking moments and transitions by gathering together and breaking bread.

We actually do something that is needed and we do it really damn well. We do it in a way that is as sustainable and ethical as possible. And while we do it, we imagine what these events and what these gatherings might look like in a post capitalist world. In a liberated world. The world isn’t perfect but we’re doing our best to improve it where we can and it serves no one if we just stop showing up and if our amazing aligned clients stop finding us.

So. I’m sorry I haven’t been showing up here to tell you about what we do as much as I “should”. But more than that, I’m sorry for not telling you all how grateful I am that we even get the opportunity to share in special moments of joy with so many amazing people and their friends and families. Thank you. 🙏 And so, I’m going to pretend this is therapy 😅 and share some recent clients and events as gratitudes every day for the next week. Putting that here for accountability! 😂 Then I’ll see how I feel about sharing after a week.

Here’s the first one - Grace and Glen. I am so grateful for you! I couldn’t have asked for more aligned, more incredible clients. (And let’s be honest, aren’t they just the hottest couple ever?) Thank you for sharing your memories with us. Knowing how important it was to you to celebrate your shared values with your loved ones gave everything that extra layer of purpose. What a joy and a pleasure it was to help you. I hope your married life is bliss!

We might be biased but we think that food is the most memorable element of your celebration. Ok, we definitely are biased! But honestly, food is how memory and experience is transmuted into our bodies. It’s the tangible, tactile, sensorial part of your event, your ritual. People remember it because sharing a meal together is one of the oldest and most powerful ways that we show each other that we care. Sharing a vegan meal shows that we care about each other, and the world too.

Grateful every day for our incredible clients that share these values and allow us to play such an important role in their more precious memories. Thank you.

These events are open to anyone, regardless of what stage of planning you’re at. If you’re newly engaged and have done zero planning so far, or if your event is coming up soon. What's the best way to cater for your guests with allergies or intolerances? Vegan food is wonderful for allergies because already takes care of a few of the very common ones, eggs, dairy, seafood for example. We have a few options for you for other allergies.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​1) You could have the whole wedding free of certain allergens. If you have someone who is anaphylactic, this reduces the risk the most. We can leave common allergens like nuts, gluten or alliums out of all of your dishes. We often do completely gluten free weddings, like the one pictured for C&M.

2) You could choose a decent amount of menu items that cater for guests with any allergies and they can share in those dishes that are safe for them. When we do this, they don't actually miss out on anything, we make allergy free versions of the items just for them as well.

3) They could have a completely seperate plate/dish/meal made up for them. This is also a good way to reduce the risk of any cross contamination that occurs at the table with share plates.

We love making sure everyone is included! When we get allergy information in advance, we can make versions of almost anything on our menus. The more specific the information, the better! It definitely is hard to make something on the spot at an event, but with notice, we love the extra challenge!

-Gendered roles - there's a few ways that you can subvert traditional expectations when it comes to your wedding and what roles everyone is “supposed” to play. Maybe both partners want to walk down the aisle with both parents? Or invite all of the parents to be involved in different ways. So Mum feels as involved as Dad. Maybe your I-Do Crew should be mixed genders. Think outside the box when it comes to roles that are traditionally assigned to specific genders and do things your way!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​-Dress code - you don't need to have a formal dress code if you don’t want to! Particularly if you’re having an outdoorsy style event or if you’re getting married when its very warm, you might want to instruct your guests to dress more casually. If you want to take it in the other direction and have fun with the dress code in a way that suits you, why not have a dress up theme for your wedding? It could be a colour guide (this looks fantastic in photos!), a style or particular time in history (something that suits the venue maybe?) or even costumes or masks!

- Obligatory Invitations - This is *your* celebration and you don’t need to invite anyone out of obligation. You don’t need to have a big wedding full of relatives that you never see if you don’t want to.

-Bouquet & garter toss - these outdated traditions can make your guests feel so awkward! There’s nothing worse than attending a wedding after a breakup and being loudly pushed out into a crowd of people to fight over flowers. Also, the origin of this tradition is just WEIRD (I'll elaborate in the comments...)

-Food is the most important thing about a wedding (in our opinion!) but you can break the rules about how it’s served. A pile of donuts instead of a wedding cake? A DIY burger bar? even just serving vegan food when everyone is expecting a meaty feast is subverting expectations and creating new traditions! We love that, of course!

Our floor staff will always make sure you get fed as well as your guests. Even if it means chasing you around with a tray of canapes! If you've got photos planned and you're going offsite, we can pack up a little box for you to take with you or just put some aside for when you get back. The food is the best thing about your wedding and you're the VIP! You have to eat!
