Trent & Tyra’s Haliburton cottage wedding was an absolute dream to capture. 🌿✨

From the quiet, magical moment in the boat where they just looked at each other, completely lost in the day, to their cinematic first dance, every moment was full of love and emotion. They requested a different editing style for their photos, and I’m so happy with how their vision came to life, it perfectly matches the vibe of their day.

Cottage weddings have this effortless charm, and theirs was no exception: intimate, heartfelt, and full of personality. It’s couples like Trent & Tyra who make capturing weddings so rewarding, the moments are genuine, emotional, and simply beautiful.

Maggie & Rob put so much of themselves into their reception, every detail in this private barn was set up by them. 🌿✨ From the décor to the layout, it was a true reflection of their style and love story.

One of my favorite parts of wedding photography is making sure those little details don’t get overlooked. The flowers on the tables, the way the candles flicker, the décor you spent hours putting together, those pieces matter just as much as the big moments.

Because when you look back at your gallery years from now, it’s often the smallest things that bring the biggest flood of memories. 🕯️🍃💍

Couple’s portraits are always one of my favorite parts of a wedding day. It’s a chance for the two of you to slow down, breathe, and just be together, away from the busy reception and schedule.

Here are my top tips for making the most out of your portraits:

1️⃣ Schedule them during golden hour if possible, the soft light is magical.
2️⃣ Trust your photographer with posing prompts that bring out natural emotion (like this moment 🤍).
3️⃣ Remember, it’s not about perfect poses, it’s about capturing the connection between you.

Here are a few things to keep in mind if you’re considering a private venue for your big day:

1️⃣ Lighting makes the atmosphere, Think string lights, candles, or up lighting. A little glow goes a long way once the sun sets.

2️⃣ Plan the layout – Make sure there’s space for dining, dancing, and mingling without it feeling crowded.

3️⃣ Hire experienced vendors – Without a traditional venue coordinator, your vendors become your support system. They’ll help keep the day running smoothly.

4️⃣ Backup plans matter – Especially in Ontario, having a tent or indoor option for rain is always a smart move.

At the end of the day, private venues give you the freedom to create something truly personal, just like Maggie & Rob did. 🥂
