One of my best pieces of advice for any couple planning their wedding…

Dream big, and focus on the small. 💕

Your wedding day should be everything you’ve ever dreamed it to be. Whether that’s a big traditional wedding with hundreds of guests, or just the two of you on the beach together and anything in between and outside of that. Dream your biggest dream for your day.

But the things that will matter the most in any scenario, the things you’ll really hold onto are the small moments. The moments that might go unnoticed. The moments where you really connect and are just focused on each other. The moments where everything else in the world melts away and all you see is your love. These are truly the most important moments.

At the end of the day, no matter how you do it, you’re gonna be married. Don’t let what really matters get lost in the process. The day is about your love. So make all the plans, then just be in the moment. Let what will be, be. And soak in every little special moment.

“Do you do family photos?!” -> Yes…and, no…

I used to do a ton of family photos! Besides weddings it was probably the bulk of what I used to shoot before moving more strictly into couples the last few years. And while I still very much adore capturing families, these days I’m much more invested in quality over quantity. MEANING, since I take on LESS clients per month now than I used to, it’s really important to me that our values align and I am serving them well. I only shoot families who are one or more of the following:

#1 - Existing Clients: I’m VERY invested in connection. My favorite thing is helping tell a couples love story from engagement through their wedding and beyond. I get to capture their story as it begins and then as their family grows and I become their forever photographer through all the stages of life. 🥹

#2 - A family who values authenticity in photos and wants more than a smiling at the camera Christmas card photo. Like what’s pictured here in this post. I will absolutely do family photos for someone who is invested in the art and storytelling of what family photos could be and really values the experience over everything else.

So while I don’t advertise that I do family photos, I always will for my existing clients and anyone who values the art in what family photos can be and the legacy they can leave behind. 💕✨

YOU are the special thing in your photos….

You don’t need somewhere “special” to take photos….YOU ARE THE SPECIAL THING IN YOUR PHOTOS.

Ok, ok, don’t misunderstand. I LOVE a good sunset or stunning location as a backdrop for creating beautiful images - especially if it’s already been part of your story together. A HUGE part of my job is scouting and understanding all the good, gorgeous locations. And an incredible location can make your photos epic….

BUT THE LOCATION IS NOT THE THING THAT MAKES YOUR PHOTOS SPECIAL. – YOU. ARE. YOUR STORY IS.

Sitting on the steps of your first home together. Standing in front of the Dolomites. Snuggled up on the couch you have every movie date night on together. Jumping in an alpine lake together. The local market or library (or beach) where you first met. Positano. Reading in bed together like you do every Sunday morning. Looking at the Eiffel Tower from a rooftop. Coffee in your kitchen. Saying your vows in tropical Tulum. Cooking dinner together. Running through ancient redwoods. Jumping in your backyard pool together.

Because here’s the truth: it’s not the location. It’s the moments you share, how you FEEL together, and the love you express with one another that truly make your photos special. So whether you’re in a grand, once in a lifetime location or a humble, everyday, been there 100000 times setting, remember that YOU are the heart and soul of your photos.

I styled this shoot for a mentorship shoot along back in the fall…

I loved getting the chance to work alongside someone and show them, in person, in real time, how I pose and interact with my couples. The whole process shared: choosing a spot, how to utilize the available lighting, incorporate new techniques, posing, etc, etc. It provided so many learning opportunities for them (and honestly myself because we never stop needing to learn and grow) and their work has grown EXPONENTIALLY since then. 😍🥹🫠

And Nikki and Liam were the absolute most perfect couple for this session. 💕

When I moved here, they won my first ever full session giveaway AND GAVE IT TO THEIR BEST FRIEND who’d been wanting to do a shoot and had just been unable until that point. I knew one days they’d get their turn and I’d get to create beautiful images for them, too.

They were patient as we paused so I could answer questions or help with settings, we’re open to any ideas and down to try anything for us. Im absolutely in love with these images and their incredibly sweet hearts. 🥹💕

They say a picture is worth a thousand words... I truly believe that images created with your partner are the most unique and intimate form of love letter you can “write” to one another. I love creating images with you that put your love story into something visual. And even more than just a snapshot to post on social media, capturing the art in your love is a goal of mine at every session. Yes, we want to capture those classic images, but it’s important to me to really tell your love story and invoke the FEELINGS you feel towards each and to create visual art out of it. Sometimes words just aren’t enough. Imagine fully expressing what you feel in your heart to your love...an image can do that so much better when sometimes the words for what we feel don’t even exist.
