Handmade leather items for larp, cosplay, film, theatre, reenactment and costume. Barbwire & Roses is a small company that creates handmade leather items.

It is operated mostly as a ready-made items shop, with ready to ship stock. The webshop can be found at: barbwireandroses.etsy.com

Bespoke items are also an option, but slots are severly limited for completely custom items. Variations on existing designs are also possible and are generally easier to fit into the work schedule. All items are designed and created within the workshop in Apeldoorn,

only for very large orders, an extra pair of hands may be employed, but under close scrutiny, to ensure quality levels. All leather is hand-picked and purchased in smaller quanitites, to ensure a good variation of colour and make certain our items are either unique, or produced in very small quantities, so you won’t find too many people walking around with your item. Besides leatherwork, there is a small of range props, also available through the webhop. Larp safe latex weapons are also offered, as a reseller of several British brands, at select events (see album here in FB for current stock).

Success! A perfect stitch out of the Nosferatu Dark Ages clan logo on only my second try!
The first try out needed some push and pull adjustments, but it's all good now.

In the meantime the days are getting darker, which means we get to look forward to Xmas and December celebrations.

I have been feeling under the weather a little, but hopefully this was the worst of it.
So that meant working on the Nosferatu Dark Ages clan for an embroidery file, mostly and just talking it easy.
There are also still slots left for the advent calenders!

More luxury trims available!
I am still testing embroidered trim as a stock item option, but am genuinely wondering if they won't be too expensive. The true test will be once they hit the online shop and events.
So I will do that soon.

This time I have 3 different types of trim available on a green 100% linen fabric.
Unfortunately I made a mistake with the dog and deer trim, so that one is immediately priced down. You can see the colour mistake in the photos.
Measurements are of the embroidered area, not the fabric.

1. Acorn trim is roughly 4 cm wide and 165 cm long. It costs 165 euro.
2. Fancy medieval trim is roughly 24 mm wide and 175 cm long. It costs 120 euro.
3. Hound and deer trim is roughly 4 cm wide and 175 cm long. It is marked down to 40 euro, normal price is 55 euro.

Quick update from the shop!
I have 2 new bottle holders available, they are 70 euro each.

There are still slots open for the Advent(ure) Calendars, 350 euro for the 24 bag option and 75 euro for the 12 bag D&D option.

I am also working on some more trim. Any particular type of trim you would like to see?

New stock item! Time for an experiment and I would love to hear your opinion.

It was suggested to me a while ago to offer embroidered trim, or borders, so people could add them to their own costume projects.

So I purchased a couple of meters 100% linen in several colours to try this out and finally have some results.

These are 2 pieces of trim of 2.35 and 2.40 meters in length.
The hound and bird historically inspired embroidery would cost 75 euro (4cm embroidery width).
The scrollwork embroidery would cost 250 euro (5,5 cm embroidery width).

Pricing is based on stitch count and I am quite surprised at the high costs for the scrollwork, but this is what I should charge to make it a viable item.
It's an experiment.

1. I would love to hear from you, if you would purchase trim for a project, what length you would normally purchase?

2. I would love to hear what you think about pricing?

3. What type or design of embroidered trim would you like to see offered?

I am not familiar with the pricing of trim, but it seems a lot? At the same time, this is not a mass produced product that you would normally purchase on rolls. So I am genuinely looking for input.

I would imagine this type of trim would be quite suitable for shirt cuffs and neck, adding a luxury finish option to people who do not have access to an embroidery machine themselves. Which is also why I left a few cm of fabric at each side of the embroidery pattern.

Important to know. This type of trim would not be sold per meter, but the length that I embroidered, although I could embroider a single meter too if people prefer to purchase per meter.

A little personal crafting update as slowed down a little with work, to take a small break.

The pomegranate bag was made from a buttery soft sheepskin. This was an in game gift from my vampire larp character during the Katharsis Herbstzauber. I love the way the embroidery turned out, it is a very pretty design and the addition of the 'pomegranate beads' were the icing on the cake.

The second personal project were fixing my husband's trousers. The fabric is slowly going and at the end of the event it was clear I had to do something before the next event. He loves the 2 swallows that I patched over the worn out fabric (I added some dark blue linen fabric on the inside too, as an extra layer).

I really enjoy these patching projects.

The advent(ure) calendars are once again available for pre-order as well as the '12 days of Xmas' D&D loot boxes.

The big Advent Calendar costs 350 euro and contains 24 bags.
The '12 days of Xmas' D&D loot box costs 75 euro and contains 12 bags.

Please order well on time, calendars are assembled early November!

For the big one you can pick LARP, D&D or a mix!
It consists of 24 bags with a wooden number tag and will be filled with appropriate goodies in a mix of handmade and some mass produced items. Shipping is included within the Netherlands plus one of those awesome big gift bags!

The '12 days of Xmas' D&D loot box contains 12 bags of loot, which is perfect for D&D lovers, 2 sets of dice and other little items perfect for the gaming table.
Use it in the traditional sense, or as an on and off advent calendar.
1 of the sets of dice consists of (raw) handmade dice, carefully curated from singles that had no complete set when originally cast.

Upgrade your calendar option!
There is also the option to upgrade your 24 bag calendar to a more deluxe version, just let me know how much more you would like to spend and I will make certain some goodies with a higher price tag will be added to your calendar too.
Instead of spreading the love over various bags, there is of course also the option to add most of that extra funding to the final bag for an extra big gift (your choice).

So, what's inside the 24 bag calendar?
The pouches vary in size, depending on the loot that goes in. So besides the loot inside, you will also have a big collection of pouches afterward, always useful for larpers and dice hoarders!
On average each bag contains 15 euro worth of goodies, with a more expensive gift in the last bag.

Larp/cosplay option:
The larp advent calendar will contain a mix of smaller larp and costuming goodies. This will be a mix of handmade, vintage and some mass produced goodies. Think lots of accessories and other larp event essentials.

D&D option:
The D&D advent calendar will contain a mix of rpg accessories, think dice bags, (handmade) dice (sets), miniatures, patches and other necessities for at the gaming table. It will be a mix of handmade items and some mass produced items. If ordering this type of advent calendar, let me know if your prefer dice, a dice bag or a big miniature for bag 24.

P.S. I love making these calendars. They cost a fair amount of time to sort out, but I genuinely enjoy setting them up and collect bits and bobs from other larp traders as well. It can be a little tricky to fill up 24 bags for 15 euro each and keep some variety. Consider adding the extra budget, as it can make a big difference!

Finished the other 2 turtles as well, so wanted to show all 3.
Plus did some miniatures for other members of the party that were lacking a painted version of their characters.

Took a day off to finally do something relaxing that wasn't visiting the cinema or vegetating on the couch with some streaming services on.
I had D&D on Sunday and the DM still had a couple of miniatures that required paint. Turtle and ooze vulture were stuff I genuinely wanted to paint, though I do not doubt we will be seeing that ooze vulture somewhere down the line.

The hag was dealt with promptly during the game.

Another shop update!
This time it's a whole bunch useful smaller pieces, like big clips, small clips, black skirt hikes and snap clips.

These are some of the most practical additions to your larp or cosplay costume. All crafted from vegetable tanned leather.

Also finished 3 remaining small belt pouches that close with a snap.
