It's crazy how you can literally look at a picture of yourself and be like, "who is that?" How is our perception of ourselves in a mirror different from how we look in pictures which is different from how we look in videos which is different from how people see us?

This is both exactly how I see myself, and not at all how I see myself. This is how I hope I look when I leave the house, but totally different from what I see in the mirror? Super weird dude - super weird.

I feel like Muir Creek is maybe an underappreciated spot? Maybe it's just that I underappreciate it? I need to head out there more often, especially on foggy days.

I'm definitely finding a lot (old and new) to appreciate being back in Sooke. I don't regret the time I've spent living in Vancouver at all, but it definitely just feels right to be back now.

I'm completely baffled. It feels like this day in July when I took this photo was more autumnal than September and October combined so far.

Though this summer I definitely appreciated the heat more than I usually would (it was a nice change outside of my comfort zone), my mood will always peak in the fall. Light rain. The morning fog! The misty exhale of the forest rising above the canopy. Also heavy rain.

Story time.
So I bought my first camera secondhand from my sister Kristi back in like 2007. And from the jump, I felt this was clearly a path I was meant to tread.

Whether or not I had any skill or success at the beginning (I'd like to think so 🤷🏻‍♂️), I understand now how much of an outlet photography became for me, and how this was probably pretty important for my personal growth at the time. As the years passed I experimented, learned, and became more comfortable with my own self image (as I was often my only subject).

Once I moved to Vancouver however, I fell off a bit. Through the music scene I got into show videography, and started shooting music videos for local Vancouver performers. And while this was a fulfilling outlet in a different way, and it definitely helped me grow as a person as well, much like my feelings for Sooke, I didn't realize until I started posting and capturing more photos again, how much I miss the feeling it brings.

Soup season begins with a coconut curry soup. I was eventually able to find red curry paste after visiting SIX stores in Langford - who would have thought it would be so damn difficult.

I love this soup though. I guess next I gotta start making some bread again soon!

I wish I could have a reliable fog forecast. I know there are methods to sus it out but that's a lot of work and unreliable. There are so many locations where I can imagine what a fog photo would look like but I guess I just have to go out there and hope for the best? C'mon scientists, help me out here.
