On Sunday afternoon, the cozy Ye Olde Towne Hall were filled with music and heartfelt stories, as Genevieve Fisher took the stage for a small, intimate concert. With only her and guitarist Josh sharing the spotlight, the space transformed into a personal reflection of Genevieve’s journey as both a performing artist and a mother.

Her family was there, with her young sons in tow, offering a glimpse into her world offstage. Between songs, she shared stories of the learning curves she faces in both her music career and motherhood, creating a warm connection with the audience. The crowd was captivated by her openness and authenticity, as she spoke of the balancing act that comes with performing and raising a family.

While Genevieve sprinkled in a few beloved songs from country artists she admires, the heart of the afternoon was her own music. Songs were her own, as well as collaborations with artists she respects. It was clear that the music was not just about performance—it was about connection, about sharing the essence of who she is with those lucky enough to be in the room.

The small and intimate setting of Ye Olde Towne Hall couldn’t have been more perfect for the occasion. The crowd, many familiar with the Hall’s warm atmosphere, embraced Genevieve’s vulnerability and talent, making for an unforgettable afternoon of music.

We have no interest in competing with the local library but the little free library at Ye Olde Towne Hall has a pretty fine collection of the crime and murder and blood and gore that Ailsa Craig residents are reading. So here a description of some of the popular. Drop in take as many as you want.

Someone whose reading preferences include Kathy Reichs, Dick Francis, and Janet Evanovich likely enjoys a blend of forensic science, action-packed thrillers, and humor-infused mysteries, with a penchant for strong, dynamic characters and fast-paced plots.

They might start their literary journey with Kathy Reichs, whose "Temperance Brennan" series feeds their fascination with forensic anthropology and crime-solving. Reichs’ books provide a sense of realism, as they are rooted in the author’s real-life expertise. This person enjoys the meticulous detail of how forensic evidence is unraveled to solve gruesome cases, and they admire Brennan’s intelligence and independence.

Shifting to Dick Francis, they indulge in stories that blend suspense with the world of horse racing. The novels appeal to their love of adventure and characters facing adversity, as well as the unique backdrop of the racing world that adds an extra layer of intrigue. They appreciate the unexpected intersections of racing and crime, with protagonists who often possess a mix of rugged determination and vulnerability.

To lighten things up, they turn to Janet Evanovich’s "Stephanie Plum" series. Evanovich provides a welcome dose of humor, quirky characters, and outlandish situations. They appreciate the mix of mystery with lightheartedness, and the unpredictable antics of Stephanie and her colorful cast of friends and family make for an entertaining, more casual read. These books allow them to unwind and laugh while still engaging with crime-solving and capers.

Ultimately, someone with these preferences enjoys the mix of intensity and humor, reality and escapism, and a consistent thread of mystery running through all their book choices. Their ideal story not only solves a puzzle but also explores the personalities and relationships of the characters in rich, often unpredictable ways.

Jeff Facchina repointing the bricks around the front door of Ye Olde Towne Hall.

Repointing the brickwork of Ye Olde Towne Hall is one of the ongoing projects the Municipality of North Middlesex is investing in to support both the Friends of Ye Olde Towne Hall and the Ailsa Craig community. By maintaining the integrity of this historic building, the municipality is helping preserve a vital piece of local heritage that reflects the town’s identity and architectural charm. This investment ensures that the hall remains a testament to the town’s history and a point of pride for residents.

In addition, the municipality’s support helps keep Ye Olde Towne Hall a functional community space, vital for hosting events, meetings, and social gatherings. As a key hub for activities that bring residents together, the hall's upkeep is essential for maintaining the strong community connections that define Ailsa Craig, ensuring the building serves future generations.
