Way back when I was in high school and playing in bands, there weren’t any all-ages venues for us to play. So, we would play anywhere we could – basements, living rooms, garages, backyards, alleys, warehouses…

When it came time to build a stage at The SOUNDLAB, I went all out with the setup. Massive speakers that hung from the ceiling, subwoofer, mixer, multiple amps, as many lights as I could get. My thought was, if I was playing here, what would I want?

There were close to 500 shows we had at The SOUNDLAB, but this was the only time I ever played on the stage. I had an open mic party for friends and family and I finally got to play my drums on stage at The SOUNDLAB. Now that I’m playing in a band again, it would be cool if it was still open!

It was my attempt to put together a "Lollapalooza type" event 😂.

Over 400 people attended to see 13 of the most popular bands from the area.

I thought it went well and people had fun, although it was unbearably hot inside! Share a comment if you were there.

Since we didn't have a liquor license, this was what we were able to provide.
But, that didn't stop anyone from knocking back a few before a show in the parking lot. 🤣

Our Story

From 2005 to 2008, The SOUNDLAB was the South Suburbs premier practice facility providing fully equipped rehearsal studios that provided a creative environment for musicians to practice and perform live.

The SOUNDLAB opened its doors August 13, 2005 and was established to provide musicians and bands with a creative and quality environment to rehearse. Musicians and bands would be able to practice for upcoming live shows, write new material, or prepare for recording sessions. The concept of The SOUNDLAB evolved as a result from complaints about the noise every time bands wanted to practice.

The concept of a practice studio wasn’t a new concept – many exist north of Chicago but never before has a professional studio been available in the south suburbs. The SOUNDLAB was open Sunday through Thursday from 2:00 pm to 12:00 am and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 am.

Housed in a full renovated 3,400 square foot facility located at 9623 West 194th Place in Mokena IL, just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago, The SOUNDLAB had three spacious sound proof studios each equipped with the following equipment:
