This Time By Basie was one of my parents’ absolute favourite albums. My dad would carefully remove it from the sleeve, clean it, load it onto his turntable, and blast it at top volume! I don’t know how many times I heard it, but by the time I was about eight, I knew every note, every swinging phrase, every little bit of jazzy punctuation! The songs were already well known hits, but these delicious arrangements were all Quincy! It was my first introduction to his genius and I was hooked.

I have loved the music he has touched for my entire life. From Count Basie and Frank Sinatra, to Aretha, Chaka Khan & Rufus, and Donna Summer; Donny Hathaway, George Benson, and Michael Jackson, and, of course, We Are the World! And then there are the film/ television scores, among them Roots, The Wiz, and The Color Purple! The list of artists is lengthy, his catalogue is massive, and the accolades are plentiful!

Thank you, Quincy Jones, for these beautiful gifts that you have left for us all to enjoy. Even though you are gone, you’ll never be far away. I know that when I need you I can put on my headphones, sit right in the pocket of Soul Bossa Nova, and feel you all around me. ❤️

Join me and Rolla Skate Club this Saturday for a Glam Roller Disco Party! Disco came to prominence in the 70s and was forced underground only to emerge as dance music, house music, garage music … its DNA lives on. I’ll be taking us on a little trip … old to new and back again!

Our final Learn To Groove session last night was a beautiful event. We had so many skaters step out of their comfort zones and into trios and trains with Coach Jason at the helm and assistant coaches Mimi and Bisilda lending their support.

The passion for skating and the generosity of spirit at Rolla Skate Club is unmatched. It's a privilege for me to spin tunes for this community! Thanks for loving my musical selections and bringing them to life with your joyful skating!!

I was invited to bring joy through music to the first BC Anti-Racism Educators’ Summit held here in Vancouver over the last two days. What an amazing experience!!

Thank you to Beth Applewhite for the invitation, and to all who shared their stories and experiences, especially the youth participants! Of special note for me were presentations by and conversations with Dr. George Dei from OISE, SOGI educator Chanelle Tye, and the brilliant Dr. Kaleb Rashad, co-founder and Creative Director at the Center for Love and Justice, High Tech High, in San Diego.

The work of anti-racism is challenging and deeply personal for all who choose to do it, particularly for racialized people. Coming together in music and dance fills the soul and provides an outlet for emotional release. Thank you to all the participants for wholeheartedly embracing my music and spreading the joy! My heart is full. ❤️❤️❤️

You know it’s a good conference when a dance party breaks out during lunch!!
