The Freakin Jester’s Court (Jester’s Court) is the frankenstein love child of Vistonie’s daydreams of effecting social change via an artist commune and Rex’s active love of independent music. Vistonie is a lifelong artist and has been passionately studying pho
tography since childhood; she is an active humanitarian, she regularly offered services and time to both passion projects and community outreach programs. Rex is a cyco for life, local activist, and volunteer; his contributions to the medical cannabis movement alone were invaluable. Rex has a long history of volunteering his time to support worthy causes and straining his wallet to fund local artists. One day, after being the sole attendants to an activist event, these two throw around several ideas on how to productively effect positive community change, which quickly devolves into a sad declaration that art and activism is just not self-sufficient, ie doesn’t pay the bills. It shouldn’t hurt to be a humanitarian, artist shouldn’t be preceded by starving. Sooooo ya know back to watching Futurama…
A few days later while attending a show at a local venue, Rex and Vistonie are catching up with a friend whose father had just been in a motorcycle accident, and after just barely surviving poor health prior, they were worried about medical bills. Vistonie, ever the fool, volunteered to produce a fundraiser, despite having zero experience, Rex had mentioned being interested in promotions and it would positively affect the community! Luckily Rex stepped up and started sending emails… The Freakin Jester’s Court was born. The Jester’s Court has since produced several successful shows, has fundraised and volunteered. They have gotten local artists paid and made sure that artists traveling through phoenix were restocked and ready for the road ahead. The Jester’s Court is ready to expand and has some ambitious goals. Ultimately The Jester’s Court would like to be it’s own not for profit organization providing artists direct support via project sponsorship,educational scholarships,production/promotional support, housing, and even cost of living assistance. The Freakin Jester’s Court believes that we must be the change that we’d like to see and that you shouldn’t have to starve to be an artist. We are figuring this out as we go... We would love any feedback,advice, input, thoughts, suggestions, (pics of your cats) on the booking process, promotions, events, incorporating and collaboration, both from artist and venue point of view, what are your preferences, pet peeves etc... here is your chance to complain about anything anyone has ever done, and help us to get it right :D
