Heavy bummer even after all these years - 30 years… wow!!! Everyone I knew that listened to Bleach when it first came out knew they were going to be huge!!! My college roommate’s best friend from HS went to U of Washington in Seattle by fall 1986 he was sending mixed tapes off of the college radio station. Soooo lucky to be immersed in that time place and era like that! Got 1 st pressing of Bleach on White from Bill at took a leak next to Cobain on South St. In Philly like 88 or 89 - first time they came east and sat on the stage talking to Krist while he replaced the neck and added strings on his bass before their show. Probably only 50 people there too - just such an amazing band - still makes me sad - Su***de is not the solution - too much of it everywhere.

Another fantastic album turns 30 years old today - April 4th! My band was in NYC hanging with our friends from Boston - and when Marc (Bass Player in Quintaine) and I went around the corner from The Continental where the show was to a Record Store in St. Marks Place, after a few minutes of thumbing through some records he pulled this one out and bought it for me because he wanted me to listen to it That Bad as he knew I would LOVE… LOVE… LOVE IT!! He was right!!!!

- I always come back to this record on 9.11 - found it digging through a store in Boston’s Central Square shortly after the attacks. It was a weird time then and even weirder now. Keeping all those affected in my thoughts. What bravery and courage we watched on TV that day and for many weeks and months after. ❤️🙏

My Story...
Growing up as the son of a famous musician, I have watched my dad MC and perform for literally hundreds of weddings!! From carrying his gear to sneaking abandoned whiskey sour soaked cherries, I absorbed every toast and introduction.
Having followed in his footsteps as a lifelong musician, my love of music has no bounds. This lifetime love affair has also led me all around our great country from Seattle to LA, NYC, Philly, Providence and Boston all the way down to Miami as a vinyl record collector. Consuming the types of music I like!! Rock – N – Roll (Classic, Punk, Stoner, Heavy, Indie, Noise, and Metal), Jazz, Blues, Soul & Funk, 80’s New Wave and more… my collection is vast.
At about age 12 I started to share my earliest collection – James Brown, Commodores, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago, Kool & The Gang, Chic, Donna Summer, Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin and more… as the DJ for my church’s Saturday Night Youth Group dances. Yup I would pack up my stereo and records and lug them to the church where our group and guests would assemble to dance the night away.
In college at Millersville University I DJ’d several different shows on its radio station - WIXQ, in fact as a Communications major I won awards for two of my long form original shows/scripts from the National Association of Broadcasting. The highlight of my time at MU was my weekly Music Video show on MU Cable called Zoner. Where I would turn a 15 second video loop into a half hour video DJ set. It ended up on college campuses as far away as Boston and North Carolina!!
In the mid-late 1990’s I worked at one of York’s finest restaurants – The Left Bank. At the same time I was friends with several of the area’s hottest EDM DJ’s even helping them with weekly Raves at Ski Roundtop. It was here that I met Tracy Martin the beautifully talented bartender. Together we decided to try a brand new concept – Pop-Up Martini Bar and Lounge Night at York’s TreMar Bar & lounge. It was great, I was able to spin my favorite Jazz, Blues, Hip Hop, Soul and Funk records, even making mash-ups before it was ever a term. Who spun Tom Waits and Miles Davis together back then??
In 1998 I moved to Boston and in the early 2000’s I built on what I had done with Tracy at the TreMar and started something called the Stoned Soul Picnic spinning the same records at Boston’s #1 Martini Bar – The Blue Cat Lounge.
Fast forward to today… still collecting records and still loving music. Having married a wedding planner and designer – Betsy Kohr of B Kohr Designs, I guess my drifting back toward my turntables was inevitable! So, that’s the story of DJ BurlyB!
Let me know how, when and where I can share my vast & eclectic music collection with you and your family, friends & guests. I’d even bring my dad along to be Master of Ceremonies! He has the voice and the face for television!! But warning, I am not the “Traditional” wedding/event DJ. I do not and will not own “The Electric Slide” though I don’t mind spinning Brick House! Think of my genres as Sirius/XM channels: Classic Vinyl, Soul Town, Bluesville, Classic Jazz, etc… email me and I can share the details of my collection to see if we are a match! Thank you and Rock-On!!
