Christmas definitely came a wee bit early for all our performers and ceilidh visitors last night! 🌲🎅 There were festive jumpers (personal favourite, the cheery dachshund 🐶) there were mince pies and seasonal empire biscuits, there was the sound of jingle bells and a VERY SPECIAL GUEST. Piping tutor Aaron Hossain brought along young pupil Euan Campbell who’d only been playing his pipes for 3 months! What a star ⭐️ Grace MacDonald and Kenna Ferguson from the Isla Sinclair Dancers performed beautifully and multi-talented Mòd singer and instrumentalist Lily Robertson sang songs from Mull and a lovely Christmas piece. Young fiddler’s All Strings Attached brightened up the stage and entertained us with jigs and a Christmas medley. Helen Pearson sang an emotional memorial piece and Alasdair MacDonald’s performance featured songs from Oban and Kerrera with interesting historical stories. Freddie MacKenzie sang songs from Mull, Scalpay and Skye accompanied by Alasdair. We also played the Christmas game ‘Musical Arms’ which is great fun 🤩 but wait! Who was that coming on his sleigh?! SANTA! 🎅 ! It was so good of him to come all the way from the North Pole 😀 Thanks to Duncan MacNeil for entertaining us with his stories and introducing all the artists and thanks to all our performers, bakers and helpers and to you the audience. A very Merry Christmas to you all 🎄

Last night we were treated to Govan Gaelic choir providing the musical programme for the evening and how wonderful it was! The ceilidh was opened by talented young pipers Sasha McCallum and Alasdair Campbell, both tutored by Aaron Hossain. During the evening we heard the full choir with songs from the last and previous Mòds as well as performances from soloists Alison MacRae, traditional gold medal runner-up, Fiona Ross, Silver Pendant winner, as well as Calum Angus MacDonald choir president and traditional mòd gold medallist on guitar and conductor Kathryn Callander on piano. The smaller 5 to 10 voices choir and the Govanettes also sang for us. We heard songs from Campbeltown, Skye, Lewis, a beautiful memorial song and many more and everyone joined in with ceilidh tunes too! What a fantastic night with great baking from the committee members and we are so grateful to the choir for coming all this way to sing for us 😀

The Not the 90th Birthday Ceilidh was held last night in a packed Taynuilt Village Hall! There was a festive atmosphere complete with giant gold balloons and fairy lights. The ceilidh was opened by young pipers Calan McGuigan, Euan McCracken, Alfie Robertson and Alfie MacIntyre, drummer. A beautiful celebration cake made by Mary Stone was cut by invited special guest Libby Shaw and friends! Grace MacDonald and Megan Reffin from the Isla Sinclair Dancers enchanted us with their performances of the highland fling and sword dance. Young Mod 1st prize winner Finlay Cottier amazed us with his singing and memory for all the words in a very long song! Instrumentalists included the fabulous Eilidh Shaw and Ross Martin who got toes a tapping, Sarah Garvin performed solo songs on piano and played alongside brother Calum on box and Innes Munro on drums. Donald Shaw whose musical journey started at the ceilidhs played alongside surprise guest Gary Innes, accompanied Sileas and fronted the fantastic finale when all were on stage together. Libby and Moira reminisced about the early ceilidh years and the importance of having a platform for young performers to hone their skills which endures to this day. Duncan MacNeil entertained us as ever with his stories as Fear An Taighe! What an amazing night 🤩

Everyone enjoyed another great Taynuilt ceilidh this evening! Oban Piper Aaron Hossain opened the ceilidh for us. Aaron has been playing at the ceilidhs from a young age and now tutors other young pipers locally. Then Grace, Annie and Olivia danced for us and it was the first time they had all danced so very well done! Jake Mackay and Agnes Liddell on mouth organ and keyboard are ceilidh favourites and got the toes a tapping. Originally from Skye, but now based in Glasgow, Iain, Eilidh and Ruairidh Cormack performed songs from Argyll and Skye. Delighted to have you with us this evening. Finally we had Edie, Dylan and Karyn from the Oban High School traditional music school on fiddle, mandolin and guitar. What great new talent and beautiful tunes. Thank you to Innes MacQueen, fear an taighe and to all the kitchen and door helpers and bakers.

Young Euan McCracken who has only been playing the pipes for a year started things off and what a talented piper he is already!
