Tuesday Tips

How to keep your flowers looking their best in the extreme heat !
As the temperatures soar, it’s more important than ever to take extra care of your flowers. I always deliver my bridal bouquets in water, with a little cloth to wipe down the stems. But here are some essential tips to keep your flowers at home to stay fresh for as long as possible.

💦 **Hydration is Key:**
- **Water Regularly:** Make sure to check the water levels in your vases daily and change the water every couple of days. Add flower food if you have it; it helps nourish your blooms.

- **Cut Stems:** Trim the stems at an angle before placing them in water. This allows for better water absorption and keeps them hydrated longer.
**Keep It Cool:**
- **Shady Spots:** If your flowers are outdoors, try to keep them in shaded areas during the hottest parts of the day. Direct sunlight can wilt them quickly.

- **Airflow:** Ensure good airflow around your flowers, especially if they are in arrangements. Crowding can lead to overheating.

**Remove Wilting Leaves:**
- Keep an eye out for any wilting or discolored leaves and remove them promptly. This helps prevent bacterial growth in the water and keeps your flowers looking fresh.

**Mist for Moisture:**
- Give your flowers a gentle mist with water to help keep them cool and hydrated. This works wonders for delicate petals.

On civil ceremony day, when the bride and groom come to my house to collect their flowers, it’s such a lovely moment. Everything feels more relaxed, the stresses are different from “the big day” It’s always a privilege to spend these intimate moments with them, have a chat, and just try & keep those wedding day nerves at bay..

It’s been a crazy busy couple of months with lots of weddings & events with more still to come. At times I feel pretty exhausted with such early mornings & late nights but when I see the results & receive such lovely feedback, it’s so worth it. Anyhow that’s it, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s supporting me during this busy time, I couldn’t do it without you. 😊🌸

Throwback to a moment of floral magic!
This photo takes me back to a transformative course in sustainable floristry with the brilliant Darrell, where florists from across the globe came together as a creative force.
For many solo florists, like myself, these moments of connection are priceless. Sharing tales, experiences, and inspiration with fellow florists is a treasure trove of growth. Reminiscing about these shared experience fuels my creativity during the quieter times & fills me with inspiration & gratitude.

Spring is tiptoeing in, bringing a subtle shift in the air. Can you sense it too? This morning I put together this “living wreath” featuring Muscari, Hyacinths, and mini daffodils - They are yet to bloom so you have to look closely but I can’t wait to see them grow.

Stepping back briefly to focus on some behind-the -scenes work & to re-charge. Unlike most, I’m always happy when January comes around, yes the skies are grey & this week the rain has been relentless but it’s a quiet month work wise which allows time for me to be creative & plan ahead. It also happens to be my birthday month “Happy birthday to me 🥳” and I’ll be celebrating big time.. can’t wait to share the photos but for now it’s hush hush.. In the meantime, if YOU need something to look forward to check out the initial workshops on the website; I’d love to have you join me, we’ll have fun that’s for sure !🌸

So happy to be invited back to the BCT (Brussels Childbirth Trust) - Many moons ago when our 2 sons were tiny, I too used to be an active member of this incredibly vital organisation. Once a week I could meet other mums & babies & know that there would always be someone else with the same worries & concerns I had (I was the mum that everyone pitied in supermarket as one of my sons would throw the most god almighty humungous tantrum (should In reveal which one ..) Anyhow that was a long time ago & we all seemed to have survived !

Back to these ladies, it was such a pleasure to see these young mums enjoying an evening together, being creative & supportive & hopefully forging firm friendships for life. Wreath making classes are so much more than “just a class”it's a way to meet & connect🥰

I wanted to give you a heads up and apologize in advance for any delays in responding to your emails. With the festive season upon us, I’ll be fully engaged in Christmas workshops and other seasonal events which might slow down my email response time. 🎅🎁

Farewell flowers hold a special place in my heart, especially when a dear friend entrusts me with this privilege.

Flowers symbolise the entire spectrum of life, from joyous celebrations to tender goodbyes & all the profound moments in between.

While the pain of loss lingers, my hope at this time is to capture the spirit of their loved one & bring a fleeting smile amidst the sadness.

Thank you D for the honour, I loved creating this for you & for your lovely dad.

Just back from a big family reunion in Wales which was just amazing ! Being able to reconnect with family is just thee best tonic don’t you agree.? We talked non stop, danced, sang, played silly games & ate so much good food, it was just perfect. Now I’m catching up on admin. but I thought I’d share a couple of photos ; look at how they’d decorated the doorway, just love those glitter balls ! Happy Halloween to you, I’ve still got to buy my”support your dentist” bucket load of sweets 😂

Dahlias with & without filter. In order to give a true picture of what I make I don’t use filters (plus to be honest I don’t really have a clue when it comes to exposure & all the rest..) But here I decided to experiment & honestly I couldn’t get over the difference! If you swipe to the 2nd photograph you’ll see the original, what do you think? Do you like to see beautiful images regardless if filters have been used or do you only want to see the real thing ? Let me know in the comments, I’m genuinely interested! Oh & on a side note, these dahlias came from the garden, love the fact that other than planting the tubers & putting in supports I can leave nature to do the rest 😊

If you were to ask « what’s your favourite flower ? » I’m pretty sure that » Peonies « would be high up there & totally understandable, they really do have thee most gorgeous blowsy ruffly petals, they almost look unreal ! But I’ll be honest, I actually like the fact that their season is so short (not because they’re total divas 🤪) but it really make me appreciate each & every season , well I say that but in truth I’m still struggling to accept that Ranunculus are gone for another 8 months 🤪. Do you know there’s a simple tip to make these ruffly, ephemeral like loveliness last longer.. ? ~ ~ Poppies actually need to be shocked into drinking (something to do with the make up of the cells in their stems ) so place their stems in boiling water for 30 seconds then pop them into a vase of warm water. The birds were singing but somehow I cut them off ! Anyhow I absolutely love the sound of bird song, a true sign of spring, I just wish I could identify the different types, anyone out there who can?
