Camp NaNo is coming up in July. Eyetooth Editing's Shannon Winton will be discussing common book outlining techniques and outlining apps.

Whether you're prepping for Camp NaNoWriMo or just want to get an idea of how other authors outline, figuring out how to plan your book is key. Eyetooth Editing's Shannon Winton will help you figure out if using a plot roller coaster, saving the cat, or the hero's journey is for you. She'll also be discussing popular free and subscription outlining apps to help you jumpstart your story.
After the mini lecture, stick around for an illuminating discussion with other local authors.
Find out more about Eyetooth Editing at www.eyetoothediting.com or at www.facebook.com/eyetoothediting.

What is Writers Lunch?
Writers Lunch is a roundtable discussion and lecture group for local writers. Here, Houston authors and inspiring writers can discuss publishing and craft in a welcoming environment. Each week, we'll feature a discussion topic, local author, or workshop for our local creatives.

What is Houston Independent Authors (HIA)?
We're a support group for authors to socialize and gain insights into the business and marketing aspects of indie publishing. We're not focused on any one genre or way to write, and we welcome indie, traditional, and hybrid authors at any stage of their career.
Our focus is providing free beneficial events and education with marketers, editors, book designers, etc., and provide strategy insights with other industry professionals.

This week at Writers Lunch, we're planning a discussion on the dominant emotions in various genres and what creates those emotional tones.
Writers have to work with and around tropes that define our genres to convey dominant emotions. All of us have formed writing strategies to reach out and touch our audience, and we can all benefit from each other's collective knowledge.
Why do lovers pine? Why do villains sneer? Does the fairy garden always twinkle? Does the detective only go out at night? What does the hero say after a close call?
From pulp to literary fiction, screenwriting to non-fiction, the long shadow of convention falls on the page. Join us as we look at the hard-earned stripes of everything that makes a work categorical, and gain insight into how to pluck the heartstrings of your readers or dash their expectations.
This event will start with a short lecture on the topic and end with a guided conversation.
