Just want to share what happened to us in Palm Springs this November. We rented a car from Avis in Palm Springs. When we landed we found a line already waiting for cars from Avis. We have Priority, so we went out to find our car and jump in and there were no cars. We found out from the people in front of us that they had a new guy at the counter - one guy. We waited for an hour and he was still working on the same person. We continued to hear there were no cars available. We got close to the second hour and decided to use the "Cancel Reservation" listed on our reservation. Which we received a nice note that our reservation was canceled. We proceed to grab a cab to get to our rental. We heard the next day that a line of 50+ people went without cars. There were posts all over social media about AVIS RENTAL CAR NOT having cars. A day or two later we received an email that we could not cancel after they canceled us, and that they would be charging us. I took it up with our bank and they reversed the charge again because they had no cars. We just got a letter, AVIS fought the claim and it received back $365.11 for a nonexistent car. We've been with Avis for over 10 years. Always choose them with our travels. That's done. We watch for an hour in that line families with exhausted small kids, seniors and even people with disabilities held hostage from mistakes made on AVIS side. So many people started their trip with this experience. I'm very curious how many others are paying for vehicles they didn't receive. Many things went wrong that night, and instead of looking for way to correct it, they charged us for a car that wasn't available because their terms and conditions are no cancelation even if they mess up and don't have cars. You still have to pay them. Shame on us. We've learned and won't be using Avis and will continue to share this story of
