The Armoury Collective Providing artists with a forum to share their work, raw and polished, where audiences become community and community shapes art.

The Armoury is a collective of cultural crusaders providing artists with a forum to share their work with ardent audiences. Located in a beautiful historic loft building, The Armoury aims to push the boundaries of art, music, dance and design, encouraging unimagined collaborations to take form. We do not have a website, we keep our events to word of mouth, mostly. There is a group you can join on Facebook. Our address is a secret...but we will tell you if you ask us nicely. :)

Opening for Moneka Arabic Jazz (Ahmed Salah Moneka) on Saturday February 8th at The Armoury will be Toronto's most promising funk and soul band Paper Parachutes.

Called "Toronto's most promising up and coming funk and soul band" by Spill Magazine, Paper Parachutes was founded in 2015.

Listeners are captivated by the smoky lead vocals of Sabre and complemented by the chemistry of Harley Vanselow's tenor sax and Simon Chow's guitar. Keeping the groove tight is Wesley Small's drums and supporting beneath it all is Brian Bonner's bass.

The group's self-titled debut Paper Parachutes(2016) sets the foundation of their sound. These Latin influenced songs radiate sunshine and gentle waves that has been the guiding sound of the group.

Their follow-up release No Bad Days(2017) elevated the tightness of their grooves with deeper exploration into Reggae and world music. The single "The Door" was warmly received by the Toronto music community and produced festival appearances at the Canadian Hispanic Arts Festival, Carasauga and PS Kensington.

Paper Parachutes latest release, Above the Clouds(2019) is destined to be the soundtrack for packed house parties and living room dance floors. The fluid rhythms push and pull your body and the infectious melodies capture your imagination long after the music is over.

Join us on Saturday February 8th as we clash cultures together and celebrate Moneka Arabic Jazz (Ahmed Salah Moneka) + Paper Parachutes (Paper Parachutes)

Toronto is known as the most diverse city in the world. And yet even in a city as eclectic as ours, we’re all siloed in our scenes. We believe cultures have to creatively collide to birth something new. The Armoury Collective is a container and ‘Culture Clash’ is an experiment where new things can emerge. So what happens when the silos break down?

Moneka Arabic Jazz draws from leader Ahmed Moneka’s Afro-Iraqi heritage and influences along with Toronto’s multicultural mix to create a distinct, funky, and unique sound. Their repertoire introduces maqam, and weaves African identity, heritage, and influences into the mix. The contributions of the five talented musicians create a unique sound that embodies the diversity of Toronto in 2020.

As summer comes to a close and fall approaches we settle in for the changing seasons where light fades and the landscape begins it's slow slumber for the winter. In this space if you listen closely you can hear autumn approaching. The crunching of leaves and frost covered grass under foot invites the listener to reflect and give thanks. So in the spirit of listening and reflection we encourage you to join us on September 28, 2019 to experience one of Toronto's most acclaimed musicians perform at The Armoury.

Kevin Quain is a singer-songwriter, self-taught musician, producer, leader of the garage jazz cabaret ensemble Mad Bastards, and an award-winning playwright who has been operating out of Toronto's historic Cameron House for over two decades, playing in the bar downstairs, and writing and creating recordings for himself and scores of other artists in dozens of genres in his studio upstairs.

Ammoye is rooted in the Reggae music of her native Jamaica, she effortlessly glides from Reggae and Dancehall to Gospel, Soul and R&B with breathtaking ease and presence.
This now multi-award-winning artist started out her career while living with her grandparents in Clarendon, Jamaica, finding solace from life’s trials and tribulations by singing in her local church choir. Her career thus far has garnered several top awards including 3 JUNO nominations (2013, 2014, 2017) and the 2015 Reggae Exclusive Recognition Awards.

Daniel Woodrow has been fighting hard to bring laughter to audiences all over the world. His laid-back, observational, calls-it-like-he-sees-it humour, will make you wish you were his best friend. Woodrow’s comedy has been seen on Just For Laughs, JFL42, CTV, Comedy Network, Much Music, MTV and SiriusXM. He has performed across Canada, NYC, L.A. and has even traveled as far as Iceland twice to headline. You may recognize him from his multiple appearances in T.V. commercials, Video On Trial, and The Beaverton. Winner of The Brantford Comedy Festival Daniel Woodrow is becoming a destination in comedy.
