At the USC vs Rutgers game I had an opportunity to ask USC HC Lindsey Gottlieb about Kennedy Smith’s overall impact on the team.

Seriously right now coaches on a grassroots level make sure your student athletes can pass, shoot, dribble and learn how to play DEFENSE. Sounds very basic, but the little things are being bypassed. If your student athletes can defend, they will get on the floor. That’s something to think about.

What really separates Kennedy besides her unique size, is her willingness to defend multiple positions and set the tone on defense.

Juju even praised Kennedy for setting the team’s standard for defense in every game she has played thus far.

Really excited to see Kennedy and Juju develop into a dynamic duo for the next couple of years.

Had a chance to cover my Alma Mater @rutgerswbb Sunday Night when they went up against @uscwbb!!!
That night was truly an anomaly, Rutgers
performed without its leading scorer for reasons that were deemed internal and USC’s generational talent in Juju Watkins did not shoot as efficiently as she said she wanted to. However, I will say Kennedy Smith put me on notice that she’s emerging as one of the best two players in the @b1gwbb. 17pts and 6stls gives us the stats but her physicality, size and ability to defend multiple positions is quite impressive as a freshman.
Regardless of the outcome, it was still really great to cover the game and ultimately hear from both coaches in the post game presser.
Coach’s Corner:
Rutgers: Coquese did not reveal to us the reasons for benching Kiyomi but she acknowledged that she had an opportunity to impact a life beyond X’s and O’s.
USC: Lindsey was very much appreciative of the east coast coverage and how packed the room was for the presser.
The game is growing and I hope y’all continue to go on this journey with me as I carve out a contributory lane for myself and the squads (@21titles | @the9450_ )

A FEW GAME thoughts 💭:
Rutgers:
Kiyomi and Destiny are the engines and the success of the team is directly correlated to their ability to make timely plays. Jojo Lacy provided some big minutes today. The bench definitely has to contribute more. Urgency has to pick up especially in the crucial moments of the game.
Ohio State:
I came to watch another exceptional freshman in Jaloni Cambridge, who didn’t have a great game, but her teammate Chance Gray put me on notice. I LIKE HER GAME A LOT!!! Ajae Petty is 6’3 but seems like she’s 6’5”. O State’s identity is in its defense cuz they gonna defend.

Mantra: A mystical formula of invocation.
Over at @smilingbellies☝🏾 of the mantras I try to preach is, Movement is Mandatory! We were not made to sit for several hours at a time and let’s not talk about the increase in poor posture and rounded shoulders from looking down at our phones every waking second of the day. I’m guilty of aimless scrolling too lol.
Gyms are nice BUT at this stage in my life I’d much rather engage in movement OUTSIDE. It’s something about the open air that just lets me know I’m alive.
Doing these short sprints with my kids (they obviously are having fun 🤩) along with stretching, breathing and walking have been essential in getting back to my pre pregnancy weight.
I pray you give yourself grace to embrace the journey and process of finding out who you are!
