Gathered up our Gateway Drum Smokers and joined 25 great pitmasters to cook the inaugural Swine n Dine Rib Cook Off Association contest at Stone Pillar Vineyard & Winery in Olathe KS yesterday. Fun contest, tucked in amongst the grape vines. Still some work to do on percecting our drum smoker Prairie Fresh rib process, which showed with our 22nd place finish, but had a great time in any case. Great meeting several new folks and happy to hang with one of our sponsored teams Hormonal Escape, who earned a 14th place. Congrats to those who heard their tickets called! We will be back next year!

More farmwork this past weekend for the Yoder Smokers YS640 as SDQ taught some members the arts of processing around 100 pieces of Sanderson Farms Chicken thighs.

Smoke grilled at 350°F + seasoned with our SDQ Classic rub = Everyone loved the flavor! Forgot to capture the finished product but it was 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Some post-competition-season BBQ school teaching family and friends about homemade brats on the family farm!

Brought some 28 pounds of Prairie Fresh pork trimmings from one of our contests earlier this year and hands-on trained them in the art of the bratwurst - from the trimmings to the grind, from seasoning ratios to rinsing and stuffing the LEM Products natural hog casings.

Then smoked these 120 brats on our trusty Yoder Smokers YS640 which gently smoked 'em at 175°F for a few hours to the magical 165. Then a crisp ice bath and an overnight rest.

The next morning we unleashed our HALO Products Group Elite3B griddle and, after caramelizing a huge pile of onions, seared in the flavor and juices and making the perfect skin pop! Check that beautiful smokey sausage in the last slide - chonky, smoke-ringed, crispy skin joyfulness!

Meat Inferno did not disappoint, such a well organized event, always a pleasure cooking in Edgerton, KS. Earned a 3rd place Sanderson Farms Chicken Chicken call and a 7th place Prairie Fresh Pork (both just missing the 180 perfect score). Cook went well, judges agreed in some cases. Still gotta work on our ribs, but 16th place overall was success amongst 38 tough teams. We'll be back again!

This weekend SDQ cooked with the and despite some rain and windyness, we kept our plan in action and after the last rain evaporated from the parking lot, the Hawg's captured Grand Champions of the 2024 Holy Smokeoff at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Overland Park!

Full results later but we know our 1st place chicken and 1st place brisket did some of the heavy lifting!

Proud of the progress these guys have made as competition cooks and excited to have helped some with their second GC of this event!

Wagyu Tritip from American Fire BBQ made great tacos, alongside cheese-bombed sausages, sliders, dips, snacks. Good times with fun folks, and everyone got involved!

What fun competition BBQ has been this season! We capped off our year with a decent outing at the Made for KC BBQ competition in Weston, MO this weekend. Congrats to Meat Rushmore BBQ on the top notch performance to take the crown championship this year!

We categorically finished middle of the road of 38 highly experienced teams, except brisket where our process improvements this year have been paying off:

19th place 🐔
19th place 🍖 No Boar BBQ
22nd place 🐖
10th place 🐄

OVERALL: 10th place!

Lots of fun this weekend with:

1) our snacks, which included Hy-Vee wings hit with Homestyle seasoning by Man Meat BBQ, Farmland bacon-wrapped pretzel rods, Totino's pizza rolls and more that our trusty Yoder Smokers cooked to perfection and Dollar General BBQ tongs grabbed well!

2) our family/friends and teammates Xander, Jeremy, and Jenny and our fun around the Solo Stove campfire jamming tunes and enjoying the marvelous Weston MO Chamber of Commerce weather!

3) the solid work of turning out the best Certified Angus Beef brand Cattleman Connection prime brisket and delicious ribs and pork.

Thanks to Trailers Direct of KC for the solid trailer that was a solid foundation this weekend. Thanks to No Boar BBQ best rub on the planet Rib Rub on our Prairie Fresh ribs and pork. Thanks to .corey for running a great The Kansas City Barbeque Society contest for the , and Holladay Distillery for the fine spirits including their Soft Red Wheat Bourbon and fun cocktail contes! And O.G. Bandits BBQ for the breakfast treat! And American Fire BBQ for the great BBQ supplies!

Taco Tuesday Alert! 🌮🌮🌮 Pancho and Lefty's fajita seasoning delivered the perfect punch to the Smart Chicken that - once grilled up - we tossed juicy chunks on some OLÉ Mexican Foods, INC. street taco tortillas.

Then stacked it with Kraft Natural Cheese shredded cheese, some chopped onion, Pace Salsa and Sauces salsa, and topped with a healthy zap of AE Dairy for the most 🌮🌮🌮

Thanks to Hy-Vee for stocking all this tasty stuff! Except the Pancho and Lefty's, which we got from The Kansas City BBQ Store 🤩

Some pix from our double-header The Kansas City Barbeque Society Masters Contest at Smokin on the Osage BBQ Contest in Osceola, MO. Smooth contest with good facilities.🤜🤛 good seeing many folks again!

Trying new presentations always allows for improvement and has some potential with more practice (1 bone Chicken wings). Meat selection impacts results, along with the financial challenges of a double header. Was still able to coax the modest grocery store selection into usable form. Day to day refinements like more careful box building improved appearance scores, some double header benefits there!💪

One Meat Ribs 13th of 13
Timeline definitely was disadvantageous with the Friday evening turn in in the middle of the Kids Q. Someone's gotta finish last, we'll add to our DAL collection!🤡

KidsQ Ribeye: 5th of 10
Steak contest was fun and Xander executed very well but not to the judges specifications this time. Will try improving some techniques for the next one!🥩
