There are many road-water crossing that are migratory barriers for fish. In ReArc we have replaced culverts with bridges. With a bridge, you get a natural riverbed and a shoreline underneath the bridge for terrestrial animals to pass.

Here is an example of one of our measures. It is a small stream called Trussabäcken.

This week, students from the Luleå University of Technology visited the project areas. We looked at the work excavators were doing and at migration barriers. The students had many questions about ecology and restoration work.

The restoration work in river Linabäcken and Laddonbäcken continues and are on schedule.

In Linabäcken, an old wooden ”slide” for timber needed to be preserved but it was a migration barrier for fish.
Our solotion was a new bypass stream parallell to the old stream.

Finally it begins!

The restoration measures in Linabäcken and Laddonbäcken have started this week.
Both streams are negatively affected by timber floating.
Two excavators are putting back boulders and stones. At the same time, new spawning beds are created for fish. The measures also benefit the endangered freshwater pearl mussel.

The interreg Next program

The 🆕 approach in the management verifications for post-2020 programmes can be well considered as a typical example of the “continuity with a ➰twist” that illustrate the transitioning from to .
📝While the ultimate goal of the control systems remains unchanged, the new approach brings in a series of ➿twist elements, both in terms of simplification of the administrative burden for the programmes and the beneficiaries, as well as a different approach to the responsibilities for the verification-related tasks.
🏗We have deconstructed the management verification process, compared it with the practices and described 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐬 and 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 for all parties involved.
🔎All of this is - in our new document “Management verifications in the Interreg NEXT programmes”. It addresses the ”continuity with a twist” aspects for all parties involved:
o for the programmes;
o participating countries / national authorities;
o Managing Authorities (MAs) /Joint Secretariats (JSs);
o the auditors/public officers in the , which may become controllers in ;
o the project beneficiaries
