Tech Trade Show Conference Activation

Promotional items and favours are fun, but so is a meaningful sustainable memento. The click clack of the typewriter drew people's attention to the Veeam Software booth where the poet wrote personalized poems for the attendees. It was a fun, different, and highly effective ice breaker.

What a night it was back in November at The Mayor's Evening for the Arts presented by Toronto Arts Foundation. With the generous support of their donors and sponsors, they raised over $950,000 for our Creative City initiatives, including Arts in the Parks Toronto

J.S.T. Productions thought it might be fun to place the typewriter on a cruiser table on wheels. It was! I was able to roam the room to be in the middle of the action.

Here's the poem I wrote to thank the supporters:..
Sponsors, supporters,
come commit to community,
schmooze with leaders,

be dazzled by entertainment,
open philanthropic pockets,
bid boldly, fund artists,

to fill the park with arts
for fun, for free, for
art is the soul of the city...

Getting to know your workmates at office parties is such fun. This company gave me and my typewriter our very own office! It was a quiet space to write people poems and I got to connect with people on a deep level. There were many touching moments, lots of laughter, and a few tears.

The organizers asked me to write a poem inspired by words from guests. This is the poem:

SHE’S THE CHEF

We trust the provider in the kitchen.

She is:
a creative woman,
a caring mother,
a still, fierce queen,
physically strong,
peppered with godly love.

Prepare your appetites for eight courses:
crunchy resistance
sour stubbornness
bitter resilience
spicy courage
juicy integrity
sweet hope
savoury transformation
delicious dreams.

Her food is everything, and we’re hungry
to taste her experience, her culture,
her African and Caribbean inspired cuisine,
her unmatched, tantalizing traditions, served up with pride.
All celebrated at this table, today.

Our palates delight in the flavours
of powerful, fearless equality.
Endless nourishing possibilities!

Like many folks, Chantal + Ian postponed their wedding several times. Weddings like this have a calmness and peacefullness about them, a peacefulness, a celebration of a couple that doesn’t rely on everything going as planned, because it rarely does. There was love in the air, and it was my pleasure to document it with words.

Candy and Terry asked me to write a poem for their ceremony.

This was a new request for me, and I was excited to give it a try.

We met on a Zoom and they shared their origin love story with me. They recounted how they met, and the life they're building together with their fur baby bouncing in the background.

I took notes of all that they shared, and then I took their words and wove them into a custom poem which I had the honour of reading at their ceremony.

There was much love and laughter, making for a wonderful wedding.

The customers who sat with me were incredibly open, and the stories they brought to the table moved me so. I wrote poems about toxic friends, amicable break-ups, pink pianos, coming into one’s own queerness, moms, new homes, birthdays and bagels.
