One leap of faith away from a drop back...it would be a lot easier with the support of a friend 🤲🏼 (and a lil more shoulder mobility), like most things in life. Any volunteers?

Things are really just...wow. We tried to ignore impermanence and suffering, but oh boi they are making themselves known. Sometimes when everything is turned upside down it helps to upend your self too.

I see communities I belong to and people I love in a place of crisis, working towards something better, but weighed down with the pain of long silenced traumas. Leaders are courageously using their platforms to show what they stand for and ending the silence, and I think if you have something to say, it's worth it to take up that space and speak your truth. But others struggle to find organic, genuine words to express their feelings. I see a rush to be on the "right side " and say the "right thing", and I think/hope this comes from a place of compassion. The sharp pain and urgency of the situation can make people feel pressured to label themselves performatively. The danger I see here is bypassing the hard reflection process ahead by identifying with a static label. Making a social media statement and slapping a label over the pain isn't going to fix the poison in the water supply that all of us are drinking.

Whatever I am, I am certainly in flux. So here is how I'm thinking about identifying with the process vs. identifying with a static entity to be labeled:

- "I'm working on allyship" vs. "I am an ally"

- "I'm working on acting through compassion and respecting boundaries" vs. "I am a safe person"

- "I'm working to understand the truth of interconnection" vs. "I am stardust embodied and we are one! "

"I am" statements can be affirming, motivating, and promote accountability, but they can also short circuit progress by allowing delusions that we've already done the work. Let's use our values and ethics as tools towards progress, not shields against deep reflection. I'm working on it too, and I value your reflections. I'm here for you. Let's name the things that are hardest to speak about.
