The Hairy Highland Coo sculpture trail is expected to bring visitors flocking to Perth and Kinross this summer.

And it’s hoped the painted coos will help raise £100,000 for children’s hospice charity CHAS.

The Hairy Highland Coo Selection Event.

We had an amazing night last night at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall presenting the selection of designs to our Sponsors.

The Hairy Highland Trail will have some beautiful and creative Coo’s all lovingly painted by our very talented Artists from Scotland and beyond.

The Trail will go live on Friday 28th June but there are signs of our Coo’s imminent arrival around Perth and Perthshire… have you spotted any?

The Hairy Highland Trail is a Wild in Art Event supporting the amazing work done by CHAS. A truly worthwhile organisation who we’re very pleased to be raising funds for and assisting their staff in spreading the message of what they do. I am pleased to announce that I will be the Artist Coordinator for The Highland Coo Trail 2024.

For ten weeks in summer 2024, a herd of 30 Highland Coo’s will take over Perth and Kinross, each individually designed and painted by talented artists. The Coo trail will contribute to the social, cultural and economic growth of Perth and Kinross by attracting visitors to our beautiful area.

The Coos will be placed strategically in streets, parks and public spaces, transforming our community into an open air gallery that sparks joy in all who visit. The sculptures will then be sold at auction to raise much needed funds for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland, to help make sure nobody faces the death of their child alone.

Hoolie Hound made £7600 at the Auction held on Thursday night!

It was so great to have the lovely couple who bought him say hello! I wish I’d got a proper chance to talk to them at the end, what a great night it was.

The result was fantastic, the total monies raised from the Scotties was a grand £256,600 - and Hoolie’s wee companion ‘Gem’ made £8000 on the night too!

Was very proud and privileged to be one of the Artists chosen to collaborate on building the puppets for the Dundee Hooley. It was a fabulous night and the Events staff were amazing (as always) at bringing it all together.

Massive appreciation to Andrew Kim and Kathy Kim of Thingumajig Theatre for their guidance and expertise. We all learned so much and unbelievably managed to create two massive puppets (a dragon and a unicorn) in only 10 days. Amazing team effort. To see more of their creations visit:

As well as being Artist Coordinator for Scotties by the Sea. (Which has involved meeting some amazing creatives) I had the pleasure of being asked to paint my very own Scottie for the Trail on behalf of BID St Andrews.

Over the course of the previous weeks we had discussed some potential ideas but Hoolie Hound was the one who came into being.

Hoolie (or Hooley) is a word that can be traced back to Orkney Scots, where it meant a strong wind or gale. It also means a party; an evening of traditional music and dance and St Andrews has a grand tradition of putting on a good party. The Big Hoolie is a night to remember for dancing in the town, so seemed apt to honour the two meanings in one.

Hoolie Hound will be available to purchase at the auction on the 30th November at the Old Course In St Andrews. Info will be available through the Scotties by the Sea website:

Have you met Hoolie Hound? He is one of my creations and is meant to represent the strong Northerly winds we get along the coast. Scotties by the Sea is an Art Trail in Fife which I’m proud to be the Artist Coordinator for as well as an Artist. It’s been a varied role which has taken up most of my time since February. It’s been lovely seeing the publics response to the sculptures… such as this lovely photo that was sent in of him. ❤️

Scotties by the Sea:

The Scotties are excited to have their coastal excursion getting closer by the day. They’ve been gathering at the Painting Space and anticipation is building.

Last night we held a get together for the Artists, so that they could meet each other and share tips and tricks. It was a really lovely night - photos by Mhairi Edwards of DC Thomson.

All our spaces for on Saturday are now gone.

If you have tickets to join us, you might find it helpful to see the map below of what to expect. This can be a great way of exploring what will be happening with your child or what activities they might like to try, especially helpful if new situations can feel daunting. Staff to help on the day will have recognisable green t-shirts.
