Once a Tree 🌲 🦚🌲
by Rio Moore

Located in the Keiller Centre Dundee.

For ‘Once a Tree’, Rio was inspired by the papier-mâché dome at Mills Observatory.

Local Artists have been asked to create sustainable Christmas Trees for Dundee City Centre as part of a UNESCO City of Design Project. Highlighting various ways of utilising recycled materials; the majority of the materials for Rio’s Christmas Tree were once a tree. She liked the notion that it’s come full circle and is a reminder of how much paper and card gets used at this time of year.

Spot the reference to peacock feathers at the top! A homage to Dundee’s links with India and a recurring theme in her work.

Last week we had the pleasure of presenting a cheque to the Maggies Centre in Dundee. The cheque was presented on behalf of BID St Andrews and Wild in Art (that’s me back left alongside Neil Cooney).

The monies raised were from the Scotties by the Sea project that culminated in an auction last November. Very proud of all the Artists that helped make the Event a success and to Jane Kennedy who was the project manager for BID.

Maggies is such an amazing charity - as someone who has lost a mother and grandmother to cancer as well as many close friends, it’s a cause close to my heart. They provide a holistic and caring support network for patients and their families. Like all such organisations they need a lot of support themselves. If you’d like to donate please follow the link.

What an incredible auction we had!🤩

Thanks to the MOOsive generosity of everyone we had at Scone Palace and everyone online we were able to raise a breath taking £272k at our auction!😱

The money is going to make a life changing difference to all of the children and families at our hospices and we couldn’t have done it without YOU🦋

This was such an amazing way to end an incredible Hairy Highland Coo Trail and we want to give a massive shoutout to EVERYONE that was involved, from artists to CHAS staff and everyone in between helping make this such a successful summer🤩

Another huge shout out to McLaughlan Transport Perth who have came in last minute to help us MOOve and house all of our coos before they are taken away to their forever homes🥰

And lastly thank MOO to everyone who came to see our coos over the 10 weeks, it was your enthusiasm and love throughout the trail that helped us raise such an amazing amount of money!😁

And let’s not forget about all of the artists who put their all into these coos to create beautiful works of art🤩

The Hairy Highland Coo sculpture trail is expected to bring visitors flocking to Perth and Kinross this summer.

And it’s hoped the painted coos will help raise £100,000 for children’s hospice charity CHAS.

The Hairy Highland Coo Selection Event.

We had an amazing night last night at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall presenting the selection of designs to our Sponsors.

The Hairy Highland Trail will have some beautiful and creative Coo’s all lovingly painted by our very talented Artists from Scotland and beyond.

The Trail will go live on Friday 28th June but there are signs of our Coo’s imminent arrival around Perth and Perthshire… have you spotted any?

The Hairy Highland Trail is a Wild in Art Event supporting the amazing work done by CHAS. A truly worthwhile organisation who we’re very pleased to be raising funds for and assisting their staff in spreading the message of what they do. For more about their work please click the link below. There are many opportunities for businesses to volunteer their time as well as their money:

Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall for helping to make it such a positive Event.
