The Nature of Art, Edinburgh Exhibition.

Location: Custom House, Leith

Launch: Friday 25 April, 6–8pm

Exhibition: Open 10am - 5:30pm
Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th April.

The Art & Nature Collective is delighted to announce The Nature of Art, Edinburgh, a special exhibition continuing the celebration of our first anniversary. Taking place at Custom House, Leith, from 25–27 April, this event brings together a vibrant selection of works created by more than 30 of our members, as they respond to the natural world.

Showcasing the diverse talents within our community, the exhibition features over 80 artworks, each offering a unique perspective on nature’s influence on artistic expression. From detailed studies of flora and fauna to abstract interpretations of natural elements, the works on display highlight the creative breadth of the Collective.

Join us for the launch event on Friday 25 April from 6pm - 8pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists, explore the exhibition, and celebrate a year of creativity rooted in a shared connection with nature.

The Sleeping Fox painting will be on show and for sale - a large circular piece which reflects my love of liminal spaces and the colour blue. It’s lovely to be part of such a talented and diverse group of artists with a shared love of nature.

I was having a chat with a friend last night about these, and they imagined them as large images, so to give an idea of scale these wee paintings are 10cm by 6.5cm. So are pretty small - roughly the size of a playing card. I like that they’re bijou.

Here seen on my desk, which I’ve tried to use consistently as the background for them.

Pigeons…

They have a fascinating intertwined history with mankind. Highly trainable we used them in times of war to carry messages and even guide missiles. Locally you would pay your taxes with them (as they were a form of sustenance) to the local landlord and now they roam the streets, a noble and ignoble past, our past. Fascinating wee creatures.

On a side note Nikolai Tesla fell in love with one and was the most significant relationship he had in his latter years.
