CourtesanCosplay Created to share historical findings and modern reinventions inspired by courtesans around the world The best were a trifecta of beauty, intellect and skills.

Courtesan Cosplay was created to educate about courtesans (elite artisans and s*x workers) throughout different time periods and geographic locations from around the world. Courtesans were richly adorned, highly educated and very accomplished in the arts so much so that they earned their living providing entertainment and companionship. The fact that they provided services for multiple customers (

patrons) rather than just one master differentiates them from wives, concubines or mistresses. Years of education beyond the average s*x worker (pr******te) allowed them to serve only a select few people yet commandeer higher fees, in turn allowing them to continue their education, artistic projects, other businesses and public works. Making them the ultimate luxury service provider and often a lifestyle sponsor, subtly advising, introducing or educating their patrons. In cultures where wives were hidden or repressed but social functions, culture and arts were still in demand, here you will find the courtesan sparkling most noticeably. They would often play roles such as: artist’s muse/model, salon hostess, adviser, ambassador, spy, private s*x educator. In these cultures they were among the small percentage of females who were allowed to and had the resources to pursue higher education and were independent enough to be in control of their own finances. It these modern times it is our goal to provide a dynamic yet comfortable environment for the sharing of ideas, historical research and social activities. It is our hope that our efforts will stimulate interest in courtesans and illuminate their often hidden influence on the arts and culture throughout history. May we continue the legacy to inspire. THIS is the public page for everyone, even those simply curious, like an online magazine where we post little articles or photos we feel would be relevant to our audience and public events we will be hosting or participating in. For those with an avid interest in more indepth researching and creating a courtesan or similar s*x worker based persona to actively play in a historical group, our closed study and support group can be found elsewhere, dm for more info.

I love immersive experiences and fantasy escapism. I'm a sucker for thrifting, recycling/repurposing things and a good game of dress up. Community service: You can totally ask me what you should wear or eat today. I'm really good at that game.

the diamond bazaar was just released on Netflix Canada yesterday. I haven't watched enough yet to really give a proper review but my initial impressions > absolutely gorgeous > the costumes, the sets, the backgrounds, the lighting, the dancing performances, the actors/actresses > pure eye candy. They're created a whole world for you to step into and I'm so here for it.

While it's a fictional story Heera Mandi, a real neighbourhood in Lahore, was established in times where its (classically trained entertainers) amassed considerable wealth and influence through the ages.

came to fame with Islam in South Asia and started being called as the 'Gardens of the Mughals' or 'City of Gardens', after the significant rich heritage of the Mughal Empire. Lahore has always been a seat of learning and knowledge. Sufism and provisional spirituality became its primary discipline.

While modern day Lahore is in the Punjab region of Pakistan these 1920's Islamic would have some things in common with the for those wanting to delve further.

Happy Spring Equinox /Ostara! Every year around this time I daydream about hosting some (non religious) event that celebrates spring. Outside picnics in the afternoon. Flowers everywhere. Snuggle under the kotatsu tables and twinkling lanterns in the evening. Maybe finally next year. I just need to find a cute spot to host it.

Sadly no (or St Patrick's/March Break in NOLA) for me this year but sharing to boost the signal. Let us live vicariously through your pics and help new people see what's there as I'm sure numbers and funds have been diminished by this global plague.

(Gotta love that this year is triple X)

Ah so young and dumb. That was the day I learned that a million other things will pop up for SCA before Society for Creative Anachronism ever would. So always watch your acronyms and hashtags kids. Just because you know what it means and it's common in your associates doesn't mean that's the same in other places.

I was talking about the intricacies of planning little gatherings *cough* and also my fondness for historical costume events... So someone saw this book and brought it to me. I'm amused.

The is a nearly universal phenomenon.

Wherever poetry, music and mine have been practised with virtuosity, great always take centre stage.

Traditional are however less well known and understood among English language readers than the great divas of Mozart and Puccini. Whether from at the court of the from during the twilight of the or from under the last emperors these constitute the first identifiably modern women. Through practicing classical and tradition-bound , they were economically independent and were free to give or withhold love. Indeed, in many ways, they paved the way for the emergence of the modern woman on Asian societies.

The diva has left her own lasting legacy across the world. Her message, several centuries old and composed in a learned language, resounds as powerfully today as when first performed, while her art itself shines out far beyond the private of the reaching round the world from the still lively productions of Chinese and Western opera houses to the vibrancy of cinema screens in Bombay and Shanghai

I've been trying to obtain a physical copy of this book for quite awhile. Whenever I think I've sourced one the trail would go cold. So when this popped up a month back and it said it was a new copy I was hella suspicious but still jumped on it. "Take my money rare book store in Ireland"

It was supposed to arrive in 5 -10 days max. 2 weeks = marked shipped but no tracking info and no book. 4 weeks = still no tracking info or responses from seller to my emails at all.

So yesterday I gave up hoping and wiped it off my board. I figured I'd been had for sucker: they sold it to someone else for an even more exorbitant price or didn't actually have it in stock anymore or simply "forgot" to ship it after being paid, all of which has happened to me before.

But the very next day I trip over a small bubble packet casually tossed on the floor instead of my parcel box (of course) beside the sign that says to put it in the box. Smh

From the back - "with magical vibrations, the author weaves ancient history with modern fiction and sweeps the reader into secret chambers where s*xuality and sacredness meet."

With no spoilers, it's relevant here as they do fit the frame work of : they are trained are educated, they entertain such as dancing and also offer mental/physical/s*xual services to temple patrons (but are not exclusive to one client such as a mistress and thereby have more freedom, perhaps more danger than a wife or kept mistress.)

Akkadian one of a class of sacred pr******tes found throughout the ancient middle East, especially in the worship of the fertility goddess ( ) Prostitutes, who often played an important part in official temple worship, could be either male or female. In Egypt, a goddess named Qedeshu, Lady of Kadesh (Syria), was worshiped in the 29yh and 20th dynasties (1292-c. 1075 BC). Her representation is found on private stelae of middle-class workers. She is shown n**e, posed frontally on a lioness (or a leopard), holding arrows in her hands. Although Israelite prophets and reformers repeatedly denounced , the early Israelites seem to have adopted the local Canaanite rites, which they practiced publicly until the reform of King Josiah about 631 BC.
