A heavyweight of the Australian club music scene, Strict Face draws on a wide range of influences- from the gritty UK sounds of Grime and Funky to the warm sonic palettes of early 00s Pop and R&B.

In 2014, in conjunction with Grime’s resurgence in the mainstream, both Strict Face and (our other special guest) Mike Midnight’s contributions to the legendary BoxedLDN compilations helped kickstart a revival of forward-thinking instrumental Grime in the UK underground (alongside notable alumni like Mr. Mitch, Logos, Mumdance, Murlo, Dark0 & Spooky), which in turn, has gone on to heavily impact the dance music scene in Australia and abroad.

With subsequent releases on Tuff Wax, Gobstopper, Local Action and NLV Records, Strict Face has further developed his sound, blending elements from extensive influences like Pop, Dancehall and Timbaland/Neptunes productions with a myriad of genres that fall under the Club music umbrella, reflecting both his eclectic taste and the hybridisation of today’s musical landscape.

"Our local feature record comes from label and Third Degree - an emerging Boorloo dance music collective.

Celebrating a year of the label, the compilation is a reflection of the genres, DJs and producers that have come to define Third Degree’s sound. It’s a lovingly crafted pastiche of high energy tracks that borrow from the UK hardcore continuum as well as genres like footwork and juke.

Subs rattle, razor sharp breakbeats are smashed apart and pieced back together in mind boggling junglist rearrangements and waves of euphoria crest across the nine tracks - this a record that was made for the rave by the rave.

A testament to Boorloo/Perth’s historic place as the ‘bass music capital’ of Australia (an unverified title but we’ll roll with it) the compilation balances intricate sound design and moments of tender euphoria with heart racing bass drops and 3am fist pumps."
