Happy New Year to you all - and what a year it has been - today we at Dementia-friendly Alton have been managing Alton Assembly Rooms for exactly one year - on behalf of Alton Town Council. We are so proud to have achieved so much in such a short time with full support from local residents. We 'kick off' 2025 - pleased to announce that in addition to providing a full week of activities and support for people living with dementia and their carers - we also have a programme of regular movement classes (weekly Zumba classes with Hampshire Dance Fitness, Pilates with Fibi Barrow four sessions a week, and fortnightly Friday night dancing with The Dance Sanctuary). Our weekly Health on the Hight Street event in collaboration with Primary Care Network is an opportunity for everyone to check in on their health and wellbeing. Following the huge success of our two recent tribute nights with Media, we are also planning a full programme for 2025 (see poster) as well as being at early stages of planning our first Comedy Night on 28th March - SAVE THE DATE - more details to come soon. We are just getting started !!

Huge thanks to everyone who supported our first two Tribute nights to put this iconic and beautiful venue 'back on the map' within the town. Taking its place 'centre stage' in the Heart of the High Street - Dementia-friendly Alton are working alongside Alton Town Council to make the venue more welcoming and accessible for public use - and trialling two Tribute nights (Sweden Abba Tribute on 30th Nov and Motown on 7th Dec) - has clearly shown that the newly refurbished front section of the venue and the front of house team made up of volunteers from Dementia-friendly Alton, members of the AODS team and Bespoke Bar Company - have set a great standard for Live Acts brought in by Productions. Its been an amazing few days to be part of the team bringing this excitement to the Town. So whats next ?? Well - now we know we can do it - we have great plans for next year. Busy weekend coming up in at the Alton Assembly Rooms - which is great as we love people enjoying it as much as we - Dementia-friendly Alton do - such a great venue. Saturday - all day we have a craft sale on from local family craft company - Elsie Rose - do pop in and see whats on offer. Sunday Hampshire Dance Fitness will be in for their Masterclass from 11.30 - 1300, that will raise the roof - before we quieten things down a little for our afternoon Matinee (2.30 - for 3pm start) - the FILMs in Alton team in collaboration with Open Access Arts are showing the award winning short film 1000 days - shining a light on the importance of 'talking about su***de'. As always a variety of events at the Assembly Rooms - something for everyone - do join us - or catch up next weekend when its The Dance Sanctuary on Friday, Charity fundraising Band Night (Out to Lunch ) on the Saturday. and Sunday Cinema - Amelie on first Sunday in October - its all go !!

So excited to announce a Charity Fundraising Band Night on 5th October at Alton Assembly Rooms. 'Out to Lunch' will be performing many of your favourite 'dance and sing to' numbers. The suggested £10.00 entrance fee will get you a ticket for your first drink from the bar - with the remainder of takings being donated to Dementia-friendly Alton. As part of the venue's development as a Centre for Culture, Health and Wellbeing (Health on the High Street), the team at Alton Assembly Rooms feel humbled to be able to host a special screening of '1000 days' - and award winning short film following the blog maintained by Sangeeta Mahajan (a Consultant at Guy's and St Thomas NHS Foundation, who lost her only son, Saagar, to su***de. This film which plays tribute to this remarkable young man, is also a 'call to arms'. What can 'each one of us do', to lift the taboo of silence and talk about su***de. Sunday 29th September - arrive 1430 for 1500 start. Film run time is 24 mins. Local health and wellbeing representatives will be in attendance during the screening to facilitate a Q&A session following the screening and explore any issues raised. Wellbeing Alton. Trigger warning: This film contains verbal and emotional depictions of a loved one's life lost to su***de. Mental Health (specifically depression and Bi-Polar Disorder are discussed). Anyone attending aged 17 or under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Dementia-friendly Alton at the Assembly Rooms are working hard to make full use of the amazing new venue that we are custodians of for the Town and Alton Town Council and as such with summer holidays drawing to a close we are thinking about Christmas Parties - are you too??? Well if you are - think no more as we have two amazing events to get your Chritsmas Party into full swing - join us on Saturday 30th Nov and 7th December for ABBA and MOTOWN nights!! Being promoted in partnership between Artlux Productions and Dementia-friendly Alton - bringing great entertainment to you all in our venue - whilst raising funds for our Charity - get those fancy dress costumes and platform boots out!!!!!

Wow what an amazing show theatre followers of Alton got to see - a phenomenal performance of Legally Blonde by AODS Alton Operatic Dramatic Society - Dementia-friendly Alton as new managers of Alton Assembly Rooms are so pleased to be able to support this important group within the town. Next production for them in November will be Ghost Train. Until then there's plenty happening at Alton Assembly Rooms - still tickets left for Cara Dillon 12 July as part of Alton Arts Festival , Charity Fundraising Quiz to support Dementia friendly Alton being organised by Newbury Building Society on 19 July and Pumpkin Pantos are hosting a summer panto on 18 August 😁

After the success of our very first 'film night ' where over 40 locals enjoyed a relaxed performance of Oppenheimer, we are so excited that our next film on 5th May - 6.30 for 7 pm will be Anatomy of a Fall - tickets just £6.00 with licensed bar. Do join us on the night. Training sessions are starting at the newly refurbished Alton Assembly Rooms too, in collaboration with Community First East Hampshire - register with community first to attend the mental health first aid course on Friday 10th May. Another exciting development is the regular Social Prescribers surgery every Monday from 1230-1430 - theres so much going on - do pop in to find out more !

After a busy weekend hosting a very special birthday party, the venue - also the home of Dementia-friendly Alton - continues to host amazing events for the community - early morning (9-10 am) Yoga with Sue Tupper on Wednesday (book on 07946 078559), inaugural Zumba Gold with Hampshire Dance Fitness from 1130-1230 on Thursday and Friday night dance with The Dance Sanctuary 7 pm - KEEP MOVING!

What a fantastic evening we had last night being treated to a stunning performance of Amadeus by Churcher's College . The young cast were so professional and all who attended were amazed. Despite some misinformation circulating on Facebook yesterday morning claiming the fair's cancellation, I'm here to set the record straight – the Teddy Bear Fair is most definitely ON! 🎉
