Plumb out in the country...
Plum Nelly is a farm. Our crop is flowers that are suitable for cutting and bringing in the house. Growing up in East Point, my mother, Marguerite, always had flowers growing in our yard that she would cut and bring in the house. She was also in the Coushatta Garden Club and would often win ribbons for her arrangements. She encouraged me to make arrangements and I remember the thrill of winning a ribbon myself. (I think it was in a vase that was a woman’s head and the flowers were her hat. I wish I knew what happened to that vase.) My father, Snooky, was a farmer. He grew cotton, soybeans, and wheat sometimes. He loved the land and producing crops from it. I remember him wishing for rain, wishing it would quit raining, and cussing boll weevils and johnson grass. He used the phrase “plum nelly” to mean almost or nearly. That is where our farm name comes from. I am telling you this to share why I do what I do. Farming and flowers are in my blood, my DNA, my past. I love what I do and I dedicate the farm and the hard work that is farming to my parents who instilled the passion in me! I hope you enjoy our flowers as much as we enjoy growing them!
