Market is officially over and I MAJORLY overestimated how many flowers I needed! My mistake means I have lots of extra bouquets to sell! Prices run from $25-50 and bouquets can be picked up from me in Sandy or from and in Murray!

Reason #2 why flowers are SO expensive.

Shipping.

Did you know that most flowers used in event work are not grown domestically? Most are grown in places like Columbia, Ecuador, Malaysia, The Netherlands… they are then shipped all around the globe, which is NOT cheap. Most are shipped in to the US via Miami and Los Angeles after which they are shipped throughout the country. That’s at minimum 2 shipping routes for inland locations such as Utah.

There is a big movement in the US towards “slow flowers” encouraging florists to purchase and support American flower farms. Unfortunately these are still limited and issues with sourcing and shipping are still there.

At Blumes we make a concerted effort to buy local when possible and even grow a large amount of our own blumes to help negate this cost.

Reason #1 why flowers are expensive! Flowers are perishable.

You can’t start arranging flowers for a wedding until a day or two before the event. You have to factor in shipping times as well when thinking about the perishable quality of Blumes as well.

All this adds to the cost and is a reason you should hire a florist. Florists know how to best manage Blumes so they look their absolute best for your wedding. Sometimes that means moving them in and out of coolers to get them to just the right stage of openness. A good florist knows how to treat perishable and fragile Blumes.

Big statement pieces are all the rage right now, and they don’t come cheap.

If you’re looking for a way to save some money on your wedding flowers think about ways you can reuse some of your larger pieces. At this wedding the ceremony backdrop became the head fable backdrop and a photo op. The fluffy pampas grass also became elevated centerpieces.

For 20 years my mamma has had the same dark purple and bright yellow bearded irises in her yard. Then this beauty showed up. She’s arguably the prettiest iris I’ve ever seen. There’s never been any variation in any of the irises till her. She’s one of a kind.
