Voyager Estate is a second-generation family-owned Estate in constant evolution: with progressive thinking around the environment, sustainability, biodiversity, soil management, viticulture and ultimately, what’s in the bottle.

To visit is to do so very much more than taste a few wines; it is to experience a winery – and a culture within – that continually pushes the envelope.

The experiences are many to make a return visit a must do; Dive deeper with the Estate Tour, a journey beyond the Cellar Door with an immersive exploration of craft and terroir. Add a cheese board, or dine in the award-winning, sustainably-focused Restaurant. The guided Origins Tasting focuses specifically on two varieties both the region and Voyager Estate are renowned for, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.

While Voyager Unearthed sees guests and sommelier together in a relaxed, hands-on look at wine appreciation through the lens of their organic farming and winemaking approach. The Unearthed experience concludes with lunch in the Restaurant. Alternatively, indulge in the full-day experience including a shorter, wine-paired lunch and an afternoon of interactive wine and food sessions.

The ultimate expression of the Voyager approach is found in their celebrated Restaurant, where “wine-first” thinking guides every menu created by Head Chef Travis Crane.

The wine-focused seasonal tasting menu, bringing together the best regional produce to complement their organically farmed wines, is delivered with warmth, generosity and finesse. Each dish is inspired by, and paired with, one of their organically grown wines - It is the true expression of a partnership between Chef and Winemaker.

The acclaimed Cape Arid Rooms announces their newest menu - A Return to Thomas River.

Located in the south-eastern wing of the historically steeped State Buildings and resting above the official marking of Perth’s Point Zero, the Cape Arid Rooms are the warm and inviting home of COMO The Treasury’s celebrated afternoon tea.

The space features three interconnected rooms architecturally graced with high ceilings, timber-shuttered windows, and walls adorned with intricate watercolour and ink paintings by Alex and Philippa Nikulinsky’s Cape Arid Collection, from which the rooms proudly take their name.

The Nikulinskys are renowned Western Australian artists. The Cape Arid Collection, which we have exhibited since the hotel’s inception, is a series of paintings inspired by the couple’s adventures to Cape Arid National Park.

The Afternoon Tea, like the Nikulinsky’s’ artwork, is inspired by Western Australia’s natural abundance. Each edition of the menu spotlights the finest local producers and ingredients.

Whether you pair your food with Champagne or beautifully brewed tea, dining in the Cape Arid Rooms is a delightful afternoon indulgence like no other.

Joy - a project that brings real joy to patients of Perth Children’s Hospital through art - was born from the heartbreak of one family’s loss of a child after many months in PCH.

Joy - Volume II ‘Etoile is the second iteration of this compassionate initiative. It is a direct result of the energy and talent of Perth curator and artist Jo Meredith in collaboration with Marie and Gino and The Montauk Lighting Co. team.

Joy raises money enabling Starlight Children’s Foundation to provide art programs for children who are patients at PCH. It does so with an art exhibition and sales of pieces by leading Australian artists who donate their work: the initial Joy exhibition, in 2022, raised nearly $55,000.

It is hoped the initiative will considerably exceed that in 2024. Joy this year includes the work of leading artists including Andy Quilty, Anya Brock, Felicia Aroney and Jordy Hewitt, among many others.

Joy has also allowed the Lester Prize - WA’s preeminent portraiture award - to reinstate a Hospitals category. Marie Botsis-Premici is a former Board member of the Lester Prize.

Modest young chef, Danielle Alvarez is heading west to launch her second book – Recipes for a Lifetime of Beautiful Cooking – at Perth’s State Buildings with a series of special events over November 17 and 18.

Born to a food-loving Cuban family in Miami, USA, the lure of the kitchen took Danielle to California to work with America’s finest, first at The French Laundry, then Boulettes Larder and finally Chez Panisse. It is here she learnt about farm-to-table cooking, responding to the seasons, and working with a menu that evolved daily.

Then identified as the perfect candidate for a concept Sydney kingmaker and restaurant tsar Justin Hemmes had in mind, Alvarez brought these values with her to Australia in 2016, heading up the kitchen of new Paddington restaurant Fred’s.

Since leaving Fred’s in 2022, Danielle has returned to the home kitchen, where she shares the joys of her cooking passion with fortunate friends and now, readers who are inspired by her food and the joy behind it. Most recently she has also taken on the newly created role of Culinary Director for the event spaces at the Sydney Opera House.

For those who are cooking enthusiasts, those wanting to expand their repertoire or simply those who are fans of Danielle, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to meet this acclaimed chef.

Alvarez will be signing copies of her new book at Edicole in Postal Hall November 17 from 4pm: a great opportunity to expand your food book collection with what promises to be a must-have, and to meet the charming chef-author.

The following day, November 18, Alvarez takes over Petition to host a lunch at the award-winning restaurant showcasing the utterly delicious food she is renowned for with recipes from her new book. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the chef in her element, sharing her love of food and people and telling stories behind the book and its inspirations.

Introducing COPIA - The St Georges Terrace café and wine bar will provide an intimate community-driven space, offering artisan coffee, a curated global wine selection, and casual all-day dining for the corporate lifestyle.

Open from 6.30am until post-work drinks from Monday to Friday, the daytime focus is on a diverse and daily changing selection of small-batch coffee. From afternoon to evening, a team of knowledgeable sommeliers lead guests through a global wine list, expanding the boundaries of curious palates.

Patrons can expect a nourishing and accessible food offering, kicking off with grab-and-go breakfast options, before shifting to lunchtime dining centred around wholesome and creative sandwiches and wraps, such as a coronation chicken and lettuce bap. Collagen-packed bone broth, lovingly brewed by Tom Haynes will be a year-round staple with seasonal variations.

While the front entrance is visible from St Georges Terrace, locals are welcome to enter via the back laneway on Hay Street. COPIA is primed to be an “in the know” best-kept secret, where the focus is on a welcoming, hospitable environment. It’s a venue where all are welcome, whether you are a coffee nerd or a caffeine-before-conversation drinker. It doesn’t matter if you know your Rioja Blanco from your Fiano, or simply wish to relax with a good glass of local Chardonnay. COPIA is the place to pop into on the way home, a space to relax after a long day of work and to share moments with friends and colleagues before braving the home time traffic.

COPIA’s underlying meaning is ‘abundance’. This abundance talks of a communal space, a sharing of knowledge, a connection with the local community and a generosity of spirit. From coffee to wine, COPIA is a destination to meet with familiar faces and celebrate two of life’s greatest pleasures that bookend the day.

A new kind of floral celebration is coming to Perth’s State Buildings in spring and it’s set to redefine our perception of florists, and their art.

Indeed Gather, which takes over the iconic Postal Hall space for three days this September, will be a celebration of artists who work with flowers and botanicals and challenge many of the moribund assumptions about traditional floristry.

At the core of Gather will be eight installations by 10 of the leading creatives from the world of contemporary floristry creating an exhibition destined to overload the senses with sheer beauty. Around this free exhibition will be artists talks, and a series of practical workshops. These paid experiences across the weekend take place within Post restaurant where the Kings Park Flower Cave will be created as an oasis of WA native flora.

They include workshops on creating native vase arrangements, how to grow a native cutting garden, creating a spring bouquet and native plants and sustainability in the garden. All are with authorities in the field.

Free artist talks will provide invaluable insight to the creation of each of the stunning
installations: the thinking and practical skills behind each unique piece, providing rare opportunities to discuss each design with its creator.

Calling all Canucks - The Aviary’s annual day for Canucks and friends is back!

Let’s celebrate our fellow Canadian pals with all the classics – cheesy, melty poutine, ice cold Molson’s and plenty of Fireball.

And it wouldn’t be Canada Day without Bloody Caesars. What is a Bloody Caesar you ask? For the Bloody Mary drinking non-Canadians, a bloody Caesar is the uniquely Canadian version using Clamato juice rather than straight tomato – canucks rejoice.

Simone Agostino is on a mission. To bring great home cooking back to life for the convenience food generation. To demystify, and uncomplicate, fabulous food from your own kitchen that brings everyone back to the table, together.

The Perth author and mother of three - a self-taught cook with Italian passione coursing through her veins - has just published her second book and it’s a triumph: TOO: A book about food, and then some.

TOO, a superbly designed and linen-bound hardback that takes self-publishing to a new level of professionalism in Australia, is about empowering home cooks to do more with less. It is a text-rich manual of methods and explanations rather than a mere collection of recipes. A book that will reward both the curious, and those with a degree of experience, looking to refine the aircraft.

And while certainly not just another “Italian cookbook”, a deep respect and love for Italian flavours and ingredients certainly infuses its vibrant pages.

Agostino’s aim with TOO is to show us how we you can take our culinary skills up and notch, while still embracing an uncomplicated approach.
