Some of Mladen Franko library LPs on , Europhon (alias Adrian Duga) and Colorsound and Happy music and some on regular labels - Funny - he did arrange a song for Melodije Istre i Kvarnera in MIK 74' his only recorded output on an ex-yugoslavian label. The song 'Zoo life' from Joys for girls and BOYS has been compiled on some very cool vintage electronics compilations worldwide.

[English captions available!] This is the interview I did with the legendary library music composer and pianist Mladen Franko on the 19.12.2024. at Sonoton Studios in Munich, Germany. We talked about Mladen's life in post-war Rijeka, his influences and departure to Germany. Then everything about his musical path and career.

Mladen was born in 1937 in Rijeka where he graduated from musical secondary school. At that time he was already in love with music and was secretly listening to Erroll Garner on AFN - American Forces Network radio till late in the night. In the late 50s Mladen was already playing gigs with his high school friends in Rijeka (Circolo) and Portoroz where he got noticed by the German composer Bert Grund. Based on Grund's invitation to become his assistant - Mladen finds a way to emigrate to Germany and work for herr Grund. After two years in Germany Mladen enrolls into the music conservatory to study piano and composition. He has a major hits writing for Ester & Abi Ofarim and the rest is history - with Mladen becoming one of the most prominent library music composers in Germany. You can hear it all in the interview.

META - I'm thrilled to announce my newest release for the - the unreleased LP by the mysterious ex-Yugoslavian jazz funk outfit META SEKCIJA. This progressive jazz group hailing from Novi Sad, Serbia, has been known in the circles for their track Fly by JAT track released only on the rare Opatija festival - Rock grupe LP. Meta Sekcija, a powerhouse of new jazz ideas in Yugoslavia has recorded 5 additional tracks in 1978 at Radio Novi Sad, and now almost 50 years after sitting in the archives of we will bring them to your turntables on a 45RPM 12"!

PS: Jugoton Funk Vol. 2 is coming out as well after several long years of work! Fun fact - the Meta Sekcija LP came to be because of research for the Jugoton funk Vol.2 liner notes! Could you believe that one offbeat community blog interview with one of the band members from 10+ years ago put me on a bloodhound trail to hunt down and license these tracks. Most of the members didn't know these tracks existed themselves! A huge thank you is in order to for his coordination with the Radio and all the Meta sekcija band members and Radio Novi Sad for their cooperation ! Expect both LPs somewhere in the spring of 2025.

Jugoton Funk Vol.2 - a deeper dive into the Jugoton archives AND a very special release - the NEVER BEFORE released deep yugo jazzfunk - THE META SEKCIJA LP - a collection of unreleased tracks from the Novi Sad's progressive jazz-funk outfit Meta Sekcija recorded in 1978. Meta sekcija is only known for their 'Fly by JAT' track released on the Rock vece Opatija LP in 1979 and I was lucky to find 5 more of their unreleased tracks in the vaults of Radio Novi Sad. Wild yugo diggin y'all!!!

[Smedi Secer Upload TAKE 2] Revni slusatelj je otkrio da sam ripao i jebenu outlook notifikaciju (fuj) u prosloj stvari (a ja sam cijelo vrijeme gledao u mobitel gdje je taj mail koji ne stize dok sam jucer slusao taj rip barem 30 p**a) - pa evo ponovni pokusaj, a kao nadoknadu stete nudim vam ovaj detalj iz zivota Miralema Kruskica (1937 - 2011):

"...mladi sarajevski pjevaci isli su na turneje sa Orkestrom Radio Sarajeva po citavoj Bosni I Hercegovini. Kada bi pjevaci dolazili u neko mjesto tamo je bio pravi praznik. Uredivao se grad, cistile su se ulice, a u publici su bile zastupljene sve starosne dobi. U Sarajevu su bile cuvene igranke na igralistu i u sali Fiskulturnog doma ” Fisa” ili u sali ” Sloga”. Pjevalo se po notama , pjevaci su bili tip- top obuceni u odjelu sa kravatom. Po nekoliko hiljda mladih je dolazilo na ples, pod motom “Dame biraju”. Djevojke su se zaljubljivale u pjevace.

Tako je i Miralem upoznao svoju suprugu Timu na jednom koncertu u Zenici. U prvom redu je sjedila jedna Zenicanka, crnka , sa plavim ocima u prekrasnoj, crvenoj haljini. Svjedoci te ljubavi su bili Zaim Imamovic, Zehra Deovic i Himzo Polovina. Miralem je pjevao pjesmu ” Sagapo” i umjesto rijeci sa pocetka pjesme. ” gdje si nasla crne oci” on je crne oci preinacio u plave. 1967 godie su se Tima i Miralem vjencali." ~https://memoriammiralemkruskic.wordpress.com/

Te 1967 kad su se Tima i Miralem vjencali, objavljena je i ova singlica kao obrada pjesme Tonya Renisa – Non Sei Mariu' Stasera izdane na 7" 1964. god za La Voce Del Padrone. Domaci aranzman Djordje Novkovic, rijeci Nada Zej, izvedba: Orkestar Esada Arnautalića.

I pulled out this record today while talking to my mom to discuss a certain song, which will be an important leitmotif for my future LP release. This made me remember two things: 1. the only known funky Ivo Robić track with a break is found on this LP - and I know this because, 2. Sometime in 2018 I did this super topical mix made up of funky and groovy tracks performed in the Melodije Istre I Kvarnera festival (1965-1981) sung in a ČA dialect and often layered with a local istrian musical scale played on specific wind instruments. Did some heavy digging for this one because the LPs and 7" from this festival are seldom found around MIK localities. Check the clips and find the whole mix on my YouTube channel or SoundCloud.
