Confucius said something along the lines of reflection being the noblest source of wisdom. It’s funny. This has been a theme in my life and in my conversations over this last week: taking time for reflection, creating space in our lives to allow for clarity and inspiration, listening to those tugs in our heart by quieting the chaos around us. It looks like my camera-eye is on this wavelength too. Here’s to slowing down, creating space for reflection & creativity, and the beauty in the upside down. 🙃 .

I woke up thinking about Kate and Drew and their boys and all of their fabulous family & friends this morning. Their wedding was almost three years ago. I never shared it with y’all because I’m the worst at that. If you know me, you know I am not - umm - succinct. How can I distill this magical day with beautiful people into 10 image slides???!!!??? I can’t. It leaves me feeling like I’m not actually showing you how beautiful this day was or these people are in any kind of meaningful way and I get stuck. Image A or image B. AorB AorB AorB?!! For three years. Here’s what I want you to know. When giving her speech at the fabulous party that followed the wedding day’s earlier moments that you see here, Kate’s mom said to Kate, “you have been THE love of my life”, and that resonated so powerfully into this daughter-mama’s heart that I think about that truth and that moment all of the time, even still. I feel it deeply too. Another thing I want you to know is that Kate and Drew are incredible people and I am so lucky that Kate and I still share texts from time to time. I take this wedding photography thing really personally and it’s important to me that my couples are MY PEOPLE. That we understand and care for each other, that it makes sense for me to be an up close presence in the emotional, intimate moments of their wedding days, that we still want to know each other years later. The last thing I want you to know is that while I absolutely love beautiful wedding details, gorgeous flowers and decor… it all pales in comparison to a celebration that is filled with people who love you and are full of joy and fun to celebrate with you. Kate & Drew’s day was the epitome of fun and joy and love. So, here’s a totally dissatisfying “part 1” to their day. Part 2, “The party” to follow….

Sometimes it’s these super simple moments that fill my heart and take my breath. The texture of the waves, cooling feet as the sun rises over the water and kisses the faces of these beautiful souls. The sweetest baby taking in the ocean air & sun & sandy toes (& mouth!) for the first time. The beach is magic. Sunrise on the beach is extra, extra magic. ✨🌊☀️ .

Some days, we just need to flip our perspective on things to bring the joy.

This morning - husband out of town, soooo tired, spread sooo thin with home and businesses and momming, getting a toddler ready for school with everything going sideways - was one of those for me!

At the start of this portrait session, this beaming lil upside down man was having a tough day that even a lollipop could hardly fix (!). I love photographing kids because they are REAL! (The older I get, the less tolerant I am of inauthenticity.) I love that they reveal their true selves, true moods: silly, grumpy, wiggly, shy, and everything in between. I love telling the story of the real them in that, actual moment so much more than I love tricking them into momentary, plastic smiles. BUT, I also love the challenge of finding out what brings out their happy and their fun. Finding out what flips their perspectives. Sometimes, the answer is quite literally just that. 🙃

Simply seeing this pic was all the reminder I needed to smile and be grateful this morning, but a headstand/upside down flip is a good idea too. 💙

Putting together preparations this week with a lovely bride for a wedding in this secret gem of a spot in has me swooning once again over . It’s unlike any other place around here. Hidden in plain sight, bohemian yet sophisticated, simple, yet ethereal. Magic.

We talk A LOT about the wind in Port Aransas. It is constant, fierce, and can drive us (me!) nuts sometimes. Photo sessions in other places get customarily cancelled because of windy conditions that we experience on a good day of shooting. Ha! You will not come to Port Aransas for beach portraits and walk away with studio-perfect hair in your photos. Never. But here’s the thing: Look at these images! Full of LIFE, full of MOVEMENT, full of FUN and PLAY. We come to the beach to get sandy, to splash, to feel the salty breeze. That is what we want to capture, to remember, and I simply can’t imagine these images without the WIND that won’t be ignored in each one. 🌬🌊💕

So much has been going on behind the scenes at Megan Biggs Photography and I am so excited to publicly introduce Skyler Hopkins, my lead photographer and social media marketing chief, extraordinaire!!

Skyler is a super talented photographer, is so smart and lovely and kind and hardworking. I am beyond lucky to have snagged her for my team. She is a true PNW girl who loves her coffee and can’t get enough of the outdoors. She is a devoted puppy mama, as you can see here (cue the awwwww’s - isn’t Bentley adorable?!?!), and loves her family, whole-heartedly.

Skyler signed up for my marketing internship, and has since sailed way beyond my expectations in both her business savvy and her talent behind the camera. There is no denying that I’ve been abysmal at connecting with y’all here (my face is always behind the camera!). I would love to do a better job at sharing my clients’ stories, as well as what’s on my heart and what’s happening at Megan Biggs Photography. Skyler will be making sure that happens. You will get to see her work and hear her voice here now, as much as mine, and we’ll all be richer and better for it, I’ve no doubt.

☘️🍀☘️ Happy St. Patrick’s Day!! A little something GREEN to wear in your feed today, and a pop of color to remind us that, despite the recent, deep freeze we’ve endured in Texas (😩 my beautiful plants!), and despite the snow I saw peppering the ground in Western Washington yesterday, SPRING 🌷🌷🌷 has nearly arrived.

We all need spring a little more urgently than ever this year, clinging to the hope that not only will blossoms emerge from frozen branches, but that we’ll all be emerging from our pandemic, solitary lives soon. I’m dreaming of the sounds of glasses clinking and friends laughing at dinner parties, looking forward to the too-long-delayed weddings and families I’ll be photographing this year, and grateful for vaccinated parents who are ticketed to fly to me for a visit in no time. Yess!! Spring has sprung and we are collectively springing back to life after a long, dark year. I can see it and feel it. Can you??

🎃Happy Halloween🎃, from the cutest (and perhaps most unimpressed with Halloween?) giraffe EVER. 🦒😍🦒😍🦒😍.
Debuting, the love of my life, and where the heck I’ve been for the last 11 weeks: Miss Esperanza Orléans Biggs. My heart now lives outside of my body, which is absolutely terrifying, but fabulous to snuggle. ❤️

My first session back in the saddle last week, after giving birth to my own, beautiful, perfect, little girl and a long road of healing for my own body. And what an absolute delight that I had the joy of photographing sweet Brené, born two days after my own munchkin (who also boasts l’accent aigu in her name)! - Two fancy, fantastic baby girls! 🙂 Thank you, Kelly, for sharing your beautiful family with me, and congratulations on this gorgeous, new addition. I’m grateful to have shared this wonderful evening with you! ❤️
