Workshop starts at 1:30, show starts at 2:30, but there’s great entertainment all day. We promise to lift your spirits up, or we solemnly swear to swallow a snail!

In 2021-2023, I was brought to Paradise, CA to teach a residency billed as “Rhyme Writing to Overcome Trauma” in every level of every district school from 4th grade to high school. I taught, and learned, how powerful catharsis and reframing your reality through words can be.

If you can, join us tomorrow at noon at the FUNKATORIUM, next to BEAR’S BBQ for free hot food from World Central Kitchen and hot beats from DJ Haviken Hayes. Then at 1:00, I’ll guide a rhyme writing and performance workshop for all ages. And at 2:30, we’ll rock a 23 Skidoo show for everybody. Whether you have kids or not, you’re invited to shake the shock off and have some fun.

We’ll also be distributing diapers, formula, toys, and stuffed animals. Cuz everyone needs to hug something right now, ya dig? Love yall!!!!!

Don’t forget to keep your mental batteries charged!! This chaos is taxing, and ya gotta take care of your heart and mind, whether you got hit hard or whether you escaped the worst, but are helping out others.

And whether you are in town or split to go elsewhere, be easy on yourself. Survivor’s guilt is real and it can make you feel like there’s no amount of work you can do to make it right. But think of it like this…when there’s no fuel, you have to go out of town to get it and bring it back. So if you’re not in the thick of it, absorb the calm. Then, when you’re ready, bring it back to town. It will be needed.

This will be a loooooong slog. Big salute to everyone doing what is in their capacities to help out, no matter who you are or what that is.

I love AVL, and I know how strong and beautiful this community is. In some ways, I believe this will make us even stronger. But keep your batteries charged, best ya can!!

Headed back to AVL with an Element full of water, food, diapers, formula, socks, underwear, etc. I love my city, my heart pumps for yall, breathe deep and try to keep your eyes on the horizon. We will rebuild together, we will bring what we have to the table and break bread together.
