Oh gosh! There's so many great memories at the Fringe, it was hard to narrow it down. As the Kids Fringe Coordinator, I have the privilege of seeing EVERYTHING that goes on at Kids Fringe, and most of what goes on in Old Market Square during the day. There's a lot of wonderful, magical moments.
As I looked through my photos, and my memories - I see a pattern emerge. I love all the performers dearly, but something magical happens when they get together to do something new.
The street performers saw that my kids had to hang out ALL DAY at the square with us, so they taught my kids to do circus tricks. The sight of three world class jugglers and my son throwing stuff around together is a fond memory. The other thing I noticed is that almost all the magical moments happen when it's raining!
When plans don't go the way they should, and we have to improvise - I'm always amazed at what we can pull off together. Lindsey had just arrived with all her instruments and sound equipment when the hugest deluge came flooding down! Everyone came to take shelter in the big tent, where crafts were happening. Shelby was at Kids Fringe that day doing a workshop, and he too, took refuge in the big tent.
What ended up happening was an improvised song being written on the spot with Shelby and Lindsey together with all the kids at the craft table!
I just can't plan for things like that to happen! Best I can do is surround myself with talented people and we work as a team to bring joy. That's what my Fringe is like.
